The UK conquered more territories than any other country in the world. The UK took over more than 1000% of its own size, in area.

Belgian Empire was 98% settlement, 2% propoer.

true Juq, Japanese people are really rare and hard to find here, and about Mongols, DanWL, the Mongol Empire covered the same size and had more population (in term of world population %) than the British Empire.

The size of The British Empire included Canada and Australia. Not exactly the most populous parts of the planet.

The British Empire at its peak was the largest Empire that has ever existed. Not just Canada and Australia as someone put it. About a quarter of the worlds land mass and about a quarter of its population.

The Mongol Empire and the British Empire covered more or less the same size: ~33 million km² (respectively 27% and 20% of the world population of that time)

I think the British bigger, but it's Mongolian large and continuous area, and you have to remember that the world did not know about America Australia and parts of Africa, then in terms of conquest are controlled and attacked the most of the world.
So relative to 1200 ~ they were stronger than the British empire, but they fell fast

Xedrox, you are only the second person I know to point out how Britain had the most land (I am the first). So I just want to say thank you for knowing your stuff.

The US is better than Britain right now.

If we're comparing empires now, I just want to say that Alexander the Great and his Macedonian Empire conquered more land than Rome has ever owned, kicked Persia's butt to the curb, and Alexander took a lot of said land because he was bored. Of course, the empire collapsed with Alexander's death, but they have some of the most rapid expansion on record.

Xedrox, that second map is off- the Mongol Empire never controlled India (which was under the Delhi Sultanate at the time). Only later, after the Mongol Empire had split, was India under the control of the Mongol-descended Mughals (lit. "Mongols").
