Auto-sell appears to sell ingredients being used to make items that techs need when the ingredients themselves aren't needed for techs, even when the items are being made.

For example, if my techs need no more iron bars directly, but need screws, if I buy enough iron bars to make all the screws I require, auto-sell sells the iron bars even while screws are being made.

Is this expected behaviour or a bug please?

It's not a bug. Auto-Sell doesn't take into account that your iron bars are needed for screws, it only recognizes that your techs don't need iron bars, and therefore sells them.

I had this situation last year and reported it, Fizzer himself clarified it to me. In my case, it happened in Idle Battles. If it's in a regular Idle level, you can simply turn off Auto-Sell, make screws, then turn it back on again, if you like.
