The answer is no. Putting moral objections aside (and polygamy is morally wrong on so many levels), it's not practical at all. The amount of economic headache and abuse that recognizing polygamy would create is extreme.

incorrect. few men have an affair in "western culture". and multiple affairs are extremely rare.

think it depends partly on where you live, and what part of culture your in.

It is estimated that roughly 30 to 60% of all married individuals (in the United States) will engage in infidelity at some point during their marriage (see, Buss and Shackelford for review of this research). And these numbers are probably on the conservative side, when you consider that close to half of all marriages end in divorce (people are more likely to stray as relationships fall apart; also see, who is likely to cheat).

I suppose in some places in rural environments, extramarital affairs are less common, but in urban environments, it is extremely common. Literally every man has more than one relationship going at a time.

I live in the middle of nowhere-ville, which is in the middle of conservative america, in the center of the bible-belt. in this small part of america, "adultery" is less common.

but thats not the point. were talking about polygamy, not the prevelance of adultery.

That's true. Take Cannabis for example. But it is a preventative measure such as legalisation can be used as a weapon against drugs.
