Army cap is set to- 2 times the income.
My income is 4, so the army cap should be 8.
On board, I have 13 armies, so I shouldn't get any income right?
How is -4 calculated?
(1st turn I did not have any bonus, so I understandably had 0 income, not even 5 base armies.)

Okay you have 9 income
And you have 13 men on the field
Since you have 4 extra men you get a -4

tbh I have never calculated anything above 2x army cap

If you want I can play some practice games with you

armies you can deploy = (base income + bonus income) * army cap - armies on board + armies from reinforcement cards

(5 + 4) * 2 - 13 + 0 = 18 - 13 = 5

so the -4 is your income (9) minus what you can actually deploy (5)

My mistake was- I did not count the 5 base armies as my income.
