So there's been quite a few topics pointing out problems within the U.S but those usually didn't accomplish much except flame wars. Thus I decided to make a topic that's not just about problems, but also finding solutions.
Here's a few of the big changes I think would help:
Foreign Policy: Stop intervening in everything. The U.S needs to pull out foreign troops, shut down foreign bases, and concentrate on home turf. Doing this would not only put all of our defense where it should be, it would also free up a ton of cash not having to maintain force in other countries anymore. After doing this the U.S should stay out of any foreign affairs except for matters of trade and things which directly impact us or close allies.
Economics: Primary objective should be to make America self-sufficient again. It's a huge country with plenty of resources and workers that are being underutilized. Raise import taxes to make it unprofitable for big companies to continue outsourcing jobs, thus forcing them to bring factories back over here and open up more jobs for U.S citizens. We also need to toss out the "right to work" nonsense that's gripped nearly half the country, labor unions are primary. (What's the odds I'd be called a communist for this?)
Politics: Top priority is combating voter apathy. When nearly half your population never votes in important elections you have a serious problem. Need to find new ways to encourage people to vote. It's also time to get rid of the two-party system. The war between Republicans and Democrats is probably the biggest obstacle to anything good happening. The U.S has third-parties with good ideas, they just need to actually have a chance to get their voices out.
For those who don't like reading a lot, here's the TL;DR version: "No more world police, make more jobs, get third parties"
Feel free to respond to my ideas and/or post your own. All I ask is that you be constructive.
Well I could care less about America to be completely honest and it will only be a matter of time before their position within the world stage is taken over by Russia and/or China. However I completely agree with you that they need to stop meddling in other people's affairs.
Think of USA like Rome. We started small. Ward our overlords (Romulus and Remus kill the king of abola and founded rome) wares our neighbors. Got I everybody's business claiming we are civilization. Everybody fears us after we control masses of land. But after a while of doing nothing we became weak and People hated us and killed us. Nice to know the path america will go to.
you have to curb corruption before there can be any talk about solutions. foreign policy is entirely dictated by the interests of corporations. the economy keeps cycling through the same problems because the banking industry does not want anything to change. and the two party system has a stranglehold on politics because of the money being donated by corporations. people would feel less apathetic if republicans and democrats actually worked for the citizens and/or 3rd party candidates actually had a chance to win.
repealing citizens united would be a big first step.
i think the main problem with the US is that it hass an extremly inefficient government. a new one needs to be built from the ground up, with a bigger department of treasury
I agree that we need to not get involved in other countries' affairs, but IS realy needs to be dealt with. They killed every American hostage they had. They burned over 40 Iraqi soldiers to death. They killed 21 Christians because they were Christian. They are using babies for target practice. The US has power. Those with power should have the responsibility of using it at least against these excuses for humans.
Ah, but you see, Boko Haram is doing roughly the same thing - and yet, noone is talking about bombing Boko Haram for some reason.
The Levant is a horrible theode, certainly, but America isn't intervening for the same reason that China and Russia aren't: More hatred to the theode that attacks; potential terrorism spike.
First of all; I also agree in principal with Eklipse, I have been voting for many years now, voted Libertarian most Presidential elections but it is flustraiting trying to convince others to vote 3rd party, and most young people these days are uninformed and don't care or don't vote at all. Second I got sidetracked: when you picked a name like King Clit I think you lost the authority to call others stupid and be taken seriously
