So, community of a most creative nature, with the amount of public maps now well above 1 000, several recurring themes have emerged. We have historical maps of a multitude of eras, others based on films or games, real-world modern maps, some made solely using the flare of imagination of the creator, and plenty of others too.

So, which genre do you think has made the best maps, and which genre do prefer in general?

Hopefully this discussion will indicate what the community wants in the future, and maybe what it doesn't want.

Historical maps and some fictional maps (ex: Game of Thrones) are according to me the best here.

The Modern and Historical maps come off the best, just because there's much more information concerning what to size and name territories.

It's good to see historical maps are still one of the most popular - they're the ones I've tried to fly the flag for the most.

Another question. What would you prefer more out of these two?

-A Map of the Ancient World extending from Sumatra in Indonesia, through India, Persia, Assyria, Egypt right up to Britannia. It would be similar to Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire in terms of cities and things.

-A map of the whole world on the eve of the Second World War in 1939. It would be similar to other large world maps but have different borders to show the contemporary states.

A world on the eve of world war II. Because a WWII map on World Nations 2012/2014 isn't really that good.

historical maps are by far the best:
Rise of Rome; Europe AD 1600; Fall of Jerusalem; Imperium Romanum; Ancient Greece; Ancient China; etc....

Okay, I'll switch to making a world 1939 map, then.

This is what I'd done on the Ancient World map by the way - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuCNoXouEPo
