You should pick 6 territories in such 1v1 auto game. Unless you want a wasteland in a random bonus you will be forced to pick.

Some level 50ish players still don't pick enough.

You could also just play auto distribution.

Manual distribution requires a lot more thinking than auto. Auto picks in strategic 1v1 aren't a good idea.

Then what happens when your opponent did exactly what you did thinking that you would do what you thought they would do?

eww auto distribution. im not a luck hater, but after playing so many games, auto distribution seems closer to lottery than strategy. yeah i guess it takes a lot of smarts to get ahead when you have really bad picks, but it takes less smarts for the guy that got really good picks.

i suppose auto distribution might be good for certain types of games, but other than the over-crowded melee (which is also largely a crap-shoot), i can't think of one.

One day Gnuffone, someone is going to do this to you, and the 6th pick you get randomly will somehow allow you to win anyways.

so far i know of 3 kinds of counters

1.positional counter-placed in such place that you dont let opponent expand while you expand freely

2.ftb counter-used to counter first turn bonuses.this may or may not be a part of wasteland bonus

3.weird last pick counter to second last pick

if you know of other types,do tell

true. but one day.. xD

4. combo counter: you basically counter a big bonus like Greenland combo with a wasterland pick in canada. (or no wasterland, doesn't matter)

5 - counter a small bonus, very good as you have 2 picks near it

my counter pick style is based on previous game, ladder 1v1 game analysed etc, i know the style of each player, and i knew WM red wouldn't do that. It's risky, but each counter Worth a lot if you perfect know opponent playstyle.
