Title says it all. Join me in requesting that we be able to make the auto boot time the same as our direct boot time, instead of having an arbitrary limit.

Lag time of being notified it is your turn can be anywhere from 20-30 seconds currently. So that would only give a player perhaps 30-40 seconds to make a move. On a small board like Turkey ( https://www.warlight.net/Map/5402-Turkey-T%FCrkiye ) that might be fine. But on a bigger board that would not be a good user experience.

I don't think 1 minute is good for direct boot. So I would recommend not allowing 1 minute direct boots. I know that may not be what you wanted by starting this thread. Perhaps 2 minutes, but I think you are right, direct boot time and auto boot time should be allowed to be set at the same amount. So we will discuss...

In the meantime how about I leave you with this. What do you think about auto-commits? If the other player is not done with their turn, whatever they have done is submitted to the server. However if they have not even deployed yet they would be booted.

Personally I think if you're joining a game you should know what the turn times are and be able to abide by them.

My teammates and I choose 1 minute direct boot times because we like to keep the games moving fast. In our experience, most people are done making moves within the first 30 seconds or so, and it's one person holding everyone up.

However, despite the fact that we put a disclaimer saying direct boots are strictly enforced, people see the 3 minute auto boot and think that's the amount of time they have. Then when they get booted, they complain that auto boot should have been one minute if we wanted one minute turns. What they dint realize is I would set this as the auto boot if warlight would let me. I'm really just sick of explaining that three is as low as you can go.

As far as the lag time, players should always check the rules before they join games. If they know there might be lag time and they will have less than a minute to move, they shouldn't join the game if that's going to be an issue.

I would agree that one minute is too low when allowing for possible lag.

But TWO MINUTE auto boot would be great option. Right now five minutes is the minimum, and thats long enough to allow abuse by players who drag the clock.

Mercers idea of auto-commits of what orders you have, rather than booting is excellent.

Problem is, implementing the first quote makes the second quote all the easier to accomplish. Allows a game dragger to enter his orders at a normal pace then let the auto boot perform the commitment for him.

That's an astute observation Richard Sharpe. I agree that 2 minutes is fairer, and shouldn't draw games out too much.

it could auto commit at 2 mins...or whatever the direct boot is.

that would work.

I agree that auto commit would make it easier for players to drag games out. There's no penalty for taking longer than you need to.

That's why we need the option to do shorter auto boots. Nobody likes getting booted, so these players will need to commit fast if they want to stay in the game.

I just don't see why anyone would have a problem with the OPTION of shorter auto boots. It helps out those of us that prefer fast games, and nobody who has an issue with it has to join any games with auto boot lower than their comfort level. Let those of us that are comfortable with it have the ability to play at our own speed.

If we have auto commit, it should be configurable how many times it will be allowed to happen, just like number of times you can come back from the AI currently is.

I don't see the autoboot point. You can just use direct boot and if something comes up in a friendly game, you can politely wait.

But I think that these autoboots should be allowed since people want them; but maybe put it in yellow in the settings.
