Forza Motorsport (the game that sells several million copies a year, that one) has a .net

That's a console game, meaning that to play it, one has to actually go out and get a DVD from a store (or maybe they have digitial purchase from within the xbox console, I'm not sure.) But either way, their primary goal as a company is to get people to buy it off the shelf when they're browsing, or to download it when they're sitting at their xbox. Therefore, their domain is not really as important compared to WarLight, where our primary goal is to get someone to type our name into their browser.

HankyPinky hit it dead on. Whenever someone asks me what the name of my game is, their reaction is usually to say "What?". The name WarLight just isn't easy to process the first time one hears it.

i made an un-related point, just showing that .net doesn't mean you company doesn't get traffic.

@ Fizzer:

I have just one question remaining: as soon as Warlight definitively transfers to warzone.com, will the old site warlight.net go on linking to the new site? That way, it can be found on Google and other search engines by typing Warlight as well as by typing Warzone.

I think that will further enlarge the community. Also, I hope it will encourage old players to keep playing as they can still access the site the old way, even though it is now on a new adress.

Also one more tip: give players some more time to get used to new features before lounching new big features.
For example, many people of the [NL Duch forever] clan, including me, where just barely used to the coin games when the dashboard came, and now we are just getting used to the dashboard, you launch a complete name and site change! That's quite someting to process for a lot of players.

Anyway, though I don't really like the new name, I think we can get used to it. Also, I understand why you change the name, you made some good points out there.

Keep up the good work!

Sincerely,

Emillio.

+1 to braak and +1 to arc and warlite.com

it always slightly annoyed me that this game had the word war in the title. for me this ain't about war, when you say war in gaming you think realtime, shooting, bombing. this game ain't about any of that, it's about the tactical aspect. that's one of the reasons why i dislike warzone. so many better names you could come up with in a little brainstorm session.

that and the ominous red and black, blood and darkness, like we're being sent out for a slaughter when you just end up thinking and clicking.

imagine playing online chess with red and black colors all around you. and call it warmongrel. let's play some warmongrel. queen to bishop 5!

don't see why the light in warlight could not have been used to come up with a new name with a more positive vibe. focusing on the strategic instead of death and bombs war scenarios. but well, that's just me.

@ Fizzer:

maybe i'm missing something here (tl;dr) but have you considered getting warlight.com? it seems like it's available.

edit: nvm, i see now:
As I mentioned earlier, we tried really hard to acquire warlight.com, but the owner would not sell it to us.

which means that they want more $ than you are willing to offer.

since "warlight" is a made-up name, i'm assuming the person who bought the .com has some history with warlight. i'm picturing it's righ knight just trolling the shit out of you.

Although I assume Fizzer has already committed to moving forward with Warzone.com, I must say I agree with ps. I don't think the game need necessarily be so inextricably connected to war, since it is just a strategy game.

which happens to be the name of the same guy who owns the registrar itself (lightspeed.ca)
could be they admin warlight.com for warlight company and that's why the name is the same.
or just domain siting.

apparently they been in business 21 years, have 8 employees and do hosting services in canada. Seems legit ownership entitlement to the .com, sucks for us.

I associate war games with action games, not strategy games; therefore, I believe the the new name (Warzone) isn't suitable.
