The worlds inequality reaches new heights at an alarming rate. New Oxfam study reveals that 1% of the worlds population owns more than the rest of the world combined.

The richest 80 people own more than poorest half of the world's population. In 2010 the richest 388 were needed for the same result.

Welcome back in the era of feudalism.

The new feudalism won't last long; maybe only a few years. The "Lords" should start studying the French revolution to see what lies in store for them not to far off now.

This is the first time I've seen this, but some quick maths...

7 billion+ in the world. Top 1% is 70 million+. Not a small number.

You have a few areas with poverty on a massive scale, Africa, China, India, Latin America, South East Asia, Eastern Europe etc. Add them all together and you have much more than half the world's population already.

A quick google shows this article. It says you need to make $34000 a year to fit into that category. ( http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2082385/We-1--You-need-34k-income-global-elite--half-worlds-richest-live-U-S.html). Chances are you make something similar or know a few that does.

Not that its not a sad situation, but its not as alarming as it sounds and has existed for a long, long time.

99% uses money only to spent.
1% uses money to make more money.

Everyone can become part of the 1%. Just save a part of your money every month and invest it.

What!? Apart from the fact that we are talking about the world rather than just Netherlands and the developed west, that statement by itself is ridiculous on so many levels I'm not sure if you are joking.

Ok, it is an interesting fact myhand, but what exactly is the point? Also, please don't use terms like feudalism when you mean sth else.

haha, X your comment was hilarious

@sze If i was to discuss that with an economist, I would prefer Pickety. There are enough brilliant people that understand the momentousness of that development, why can't you?

And no, I chose to say feudalism, because I mean feudalism. You can call it neo-feudalism if you think that suits you better.

I repeat, what is the point? What is that you are implying by that fact? You present it as if it's obvoiusly bad or should be prevented in some way, so please state that clearly and explain why is it like that. Just give a short answer that'd show us what is the path from the statistic you have shown to whatever is the point you are making.

More whiney people.

I agree with Pulsey mostly; some countries are better than some countries. The Nordic Countries and North Korea are great with income equalities.

But...China, Eastern Europe are certainly well above the poverty line, the only European country I think of that is third world is Kosova, and that is barely. Eastern Europe holds some of the most welloff countries in Europe.

In South America, the only thirdworld country is Paraguay.

North Korea with income equalities? are you serious man? the worst nation in this world, where a ruling cast owns everything. North Koreans barely survive (millions of N.Koreans are suffering of famine and starvations...).
And this dickhead of Kim Jong Un... if terrorists were useful somewhere it would be in North Korea, just kill him!

I, for one, welcome this new age of Feudalism that Myhand is talking about. Especially if it means I can marry into a king's family, assassinate that king, become king myself, and declare war on other kings.

Unless i am mistaken, around 10 years ago, 20% of population owns 80% of financial resourse. I recently read a study that basically claimed that the financial crisis occured in last years increases the gap between rich and poorest, and in next 10 years, only 0,3% of rich will own more than 90%. It is really sad and wrong in my opinion.
