I noticed the coins bullshit and that you have to pay to play some of the multiplayer games – it seems as if only the real-time ones have this 'feature'...am I right?

No, below the coin games are all of the other open games, about 20% of which are real-time.

Coin games cost money and you can win money. Free games are free.
