How will matchmaking work? If it works just like normal games, good players could farm noobs and easily earn a fortune this way.

You won't be able to control who you play against when joining open games. In the lobby, everyone's name will just show up as "[Hidden]" until the game starts, so you don't know who you're accepting a game with.

Now, someone could still try to do this by creating their own games (i.e. challenges.) But the person being challenged can always decline. Names aren't hidden in challenges, so you always know who is challenging you.

Interesting attempt at monetizing the game (given that 10% goes to the house) but I do have to wonder just how much farming will be a problem. There is such a wide skill gap in this game that a lot of the entries will just be throwing their money away.

Will be especially dangerous for new players who have an over-inflated sense of ability based on playing weaker opponents in open games. I know when I got my membership I did so thinking I would storm my way to the top tier of the ladder without issue... instead I was around 50th with low 1500s rating (talk about a rude awakening!)

Cool update.. but not much for me since I don't believe I'm good enough (or have the money) to put a wager in games.

This is interesting, never really saw this coming... Not necessarily a bad thing however.

Should be a nice incentive for top notch players to continue around. Heck this might even bring a new flow of top level strategists into the game.

This could however be easily exploited with the use of second accounts. As you said with challenges, someone with a very good veteran skill could have an account with a very low level. There needs to be a way to limit scamming such as this.

That's true. Also i can imagine situation like:
Arun gives access to his account to [PLACE LEGENDARY PLAYER'S NAME HERE], and the later beat someone who think he is playing against Arun.

Semicedevine, a 10% cut is already taken, though how much of that goes directly to Fizzer and how much goes to paying for the transaction costs is not clear (credit cards typically charge ~3% I believe, I am sure this would have something similar)

Interesting idea but I have a few questions:

1.) Do players start with any initial Warlight Coins or do they need to be purchased?
2.) Will players who own a membership start with more coins than a non-member. (Or be allowed to buy coins at a cheaper rate than non-members?)
3.) Are there any other specifications other than 0% Luck, SR, Cyclic move order??? Or does it need to be a certain template like Strategic ME? (Im asking if any of the seasonal templates could work...)
4.) Could this be used to incorporate a new leader board?

There will be some limited quantity of free coins, but there will not be much since coins are worth actual money, so if we gave out too much we’d go bankrupt.

Are there any other specifications other than 0% Luck, SR, Cyclic move order?

There can't be any randomness that affects one players differently than others. So cards must also be given out on a fixed schedule. Random warlords is okay since it happens before the game starts. Wastelands are okay as long as scenario distributions aren't used.

This could however be easily exploited with the use of second accounts.

Using multiple accounts for coin games (or sharing accounts) is strictly against the rules. Anyone caught would get their account banned and lose all their earnings. Given how big of a risk that would be, it's unlikely this will be a problem.

@Mr. Fall I assume some people will try and link a pay pal to multiple accounts. They could easily be caught there...

I also just realized we need to clarify how exactly transactions will take place.

And fizzer making a second account but not actually associating it with a main account, just a player with the skills from a really strong account using the level of a really low player is not illegal, is it?

How does this new real-money system differ from online poker? This is effectively gambling, is it not? Isn't online poker banned in the USA?

Apparently not, because in poker cards (randomness) decide(or at least influence) who win.
Warlight games can be now randomness-free, so it's quite different. My knowledge about law(especially in US:P) is low, but i can partially understand that distinction.
Only partially, because 'paper-rock-scissors' game is randomness-free in the same way - and i would still call it gambling if you anyone is to play it for money. And warlight in some situations is very similar to paper-rock-scissors, even with no-luck settings.

Sirius you have a point. The initial playing for pure fun and enjoyment will diminish somewhat.

That being said, very interesting update. As long as monetizing doesn't create an uneven playing field most players wouldn't mind. That is Warlights greatest appeal.

@fridge, you are half right. Some people indeed will still play for fun after this upgrade (like you). Some people after the update might play warlight solely for "money" instead of fun :( Also, i feel like this is not a really good update for kids who play warlight (all base on personal opinion).

Multiple accounts would be very easy to exploit. Since players are given a few coins initially, anyone could just make multiple accounts and withdraw all the initial coins on each of those accounts.
