One of our teammates is on vacation.
While still in vacation mode, he logged in and is suggesting (via team chat) a change in orders for a team member.

Our game is passed the auto-boot trigger.

So if a player (not the one on vacation) tries to modify his orders, will he be able to do so? Will he get booted? What will happen?

There's a risk but you're usually able to modify your orders while a teammate is on vacation. I think, during the vacation, the game checks every few hours to see if someone (other than the vacationer) is uncommitted past the boot time and initiates the boot if they are, so it's just luck of the draw about not uncommitting and changing your orders while this check happens.

I don't know the details but on the 3v3 ladder I was on vacation, the game was past boot, and my teammates were able to update their moves. The above is how it was explained to me.

based on my personal experience with online multiplayer games, I would advise that the player who wishes to change their orders write their changes down on paper first, so that they can see exactly what they are doing and do it as quickly as possible.

I would also suggest timing the operation so that it is not near an hour or half hour...
so 5:47 would probably be better than 5:05 or 5:35...
and avoiding the clan wars hours and other times when the game automatically does stuff, like change the server clock for the day.

(or releasing new Auto-Games, that sorta thing.)
