Getting started on my first Insane, I finally reached the point where it makes sense to start a merger. Next super is probably going to be the last of my 'No Insanes' run. I don't regret choosing to play this way, the numbers checked out and it was indeed the quickest way to clear levels and superascend.

Overall, no single Insane is worth 5 core or side Legendaries, that's just it. The advantage of merging artifacts scales up until Legendaries, then goes down abruptly at the Insane level. Which makes sense, since most of the game was balanced before Insanes were even a thing. Anyway I'm digressing, as usual.

The biggest advantage of Insanes is they're more slot efficient. Not having to take 4 (or 8, or 12...) extra slots to haul around extra artifacts is a big deal.

That being said, the advantage with Insane A$B and A^B is quite large, those are easily worth more than 4 "convenience" Legendaries. Past that, the impact seems a lot less pronounced.

Now 2 years after SA1 I'm entering personal phase 3 of this game by adding mostly +100APs.
