Question for all:

This is an aspect of online games I've never quite understood. If an individual is never allowed to join games with experienced players...how are they supposed to get out of "noob" status?

IMO, the viewpoint of not allowing newer players into your games just perpetuates the bad aspects of their play-styles and never helps them to understand the proper etiquette in that particular game. This is a issue that has ruined some online games for me because the community looks at you as a "noob" and not a possible "good" player trying to establish themselves in a new game.

What do you think?

Don't you ever get tired of this stupid game? This has been going on for two weeks. I'm trying to leave it alone. Please do the same.

If you're trying to leave it alone, then why do you continuously post non-sense in other threads about me jopoop??? You're a whining, complaining little troll...That's all you do. Just look at this thread? Whining and complaining like a little troll.

As I said...I'm trying to leave it alone. I was very angry with you at one point, but I've since realized that it's not worth ruining others' WL experiences. I'm done with this garbage.

Please stop calling me names and trying to make me mad every chance you get. Also, please stop trying to ruin a perfectly good forum for your grudge against me. If you want to have a civilized, adult conversation...I would welcome the opportunity. Otherwise, please stop. Thank you.

I think new players have no business in games with very experienced players. It ruins the game for both players. Some players will play teaching games where they coach the other players -- more power to them, but in 1x1 it's just not very much fun. If you're good you'll start beating up on the other newbie players very quickly and after 20 or 30 games, you'll start joining games with more experienced players. I've given lots of advice to other players, but it's too steep a learning curve for someone playing their first 10 games. They'll appreciate the advice once they've tried various strategies and discovered what works and what doesn't.

What starting spots to pick (in what order)
What are the most/least valuable bonuses in the early game (mid game/late game)
What counterpicks to use
tactics for optimizing attack/defense bonuses

etc.

I play tutoring matches all the time, for just this purpose Joboo. Duke has a point though, players already rise up through the cracks when the most talented start wailing on other new players, and eventually are invited to big name tournaments, at which point they may or may not be included into the top player community. The major question is...ought the stronger players intervene and attempt to drag up players who may or may not have any business being there, or do we sit back and let only the very best join our ranks?

I've been at this for a while, now. I don't consider myself anywhere near the top tier of players. What I've noticed is the exclusion of newer players. Not just here but on other sites, as well. I'll probably never be as good as the best on this site, but I'm not sure I should be denied to opportunity to test myself against them. Although, I do agree that it would be a blowout against a lot of you. I think it may be possible that the anti-noob policy keeps good players away sometimes.

I may be not playing this game as long as you, but personally I never experienced any "anti-noob" actions. Do you believe it's really so common/problematic?

Joboo - For me, there was no open games to play (it wasn't created yet!). In the beginning, players would join Warlight with a big group of friends that enjoyed these types of games. And from there we just played with people we knew over and over and over again, and luckily we talked amongst each other about strategies and things to try. It took a good few months to get better that way because there wasn't anyone new for you to test your skills with.

Open games have accelerated this process because you can usually start a game and someone will join instantly, back in the beginning I'd have to call up my Warlight buddies and ask if they want to play a live game.

I find that the good players will find their way to the top and get noticed (a few recent ones for example; Duke, Waya, The Impaller, Blue Precision, Eitz, declan).

Personally, I like to play with newer players so that I can meet new people and see how good their skills are, and after a few games I'll invite them to the bigger games. (Actually they don't usually get my attention unless they beat me). If a person is talkative in the game asking questions and regularly analyzing the history, they usually get better a whole lot faster.

A couple traits the top tier players all have in common is that they like to chat and have a good time while playing, they are very patient(not a lot of booting), they collaborate, and they win games.

I find that the best way to learn is have a tutoring session with a seasoned played and to play a couple games with them. Most all of the good players are totally up for it if you're in no rush (except Duke the Noob hater, lol).

Joboo, I'd be happy to play a couple games with you to get you up to speed on some strategies and for simplicity we'll use the Standard Strategic 1v1 settings. I'll invite you to a game and we'll go from there. (If anyone else wants to take me up on the offer, please invite me to your game and i'll join. I try to make my moves everyday but there are some days where something will come up and I can't play that day)

All it takes is practice, lots of practice!

Thank you Ruthless. I'll take you up on that one. It's good to see that most players I've interacted with have a very open mind when it comes to welcoming new players. Especially considering the recent influx of newer players to the site. I look forward to our game, Ruthless. See you on the field!

@Pink I was referencing the class wave they came in (i should have been a little more specific). All of those players joined Warlight relatively at the same point in time and those were the best of that wave. I'm not saying that now they are the best, I was just saying that those are the few I've noticed that have crawled through the cracks
