OMRLP you denigrate what the Scottish did for the United Kingdom :(

Elroi you again show your ignorance, it is merely a version of the Jack minus the Cross of Saint Andrew

No, this is the flag of England.

I posted a redesign of the UK's flag so Scotland was removed but Wales was included. It combines the flags of England, Wales and the old flag of Ireland (used to represent Northern Ireland because it doesn't have it's own flag).

I know more Jewish history, I have not studied in depth the history of other nations.
But I think it's England, because of the cross sense it symbolizes the English Crown.
Diagonal and cross the Scottish crown
Well, the flag of Wales does not appear on the flag

unishing ordinary people be they Scottish or English is ... well it's just mean and cold hearted especially if it's only so you can 'prove' that England is > Scotland :(

Nothing to do with it. Scotland votes to separate, it is alone. We should no longer be responsible for them. They lose the negative, they lose the positive. The UK (not England :) ) has no responsibility for the welfare of another nation. Unless it benefits us, why should we strain to support another country?

Since when was Cumbria, Lancashire, Northumberland, Teeside and Yorkshire another country?

Or perhaps you agree that north of Watford they are all foreign savages?

Ska2D2, given Ⓖ. Ⓐrun is Welsh, I doubt he thinks that everyone out of south-east England is a savage, but I can't speak for him, so you'll have to wait for him to respond.

Cumbria, Lancashire, Teeside and Yorkshire and part of England, so would remain part of the UK if Scotland voted to leave. Therefore the UK would be responsible for the people there. However, those in Scotland might not be part of the UK in the future. If they become their own country, then the people in Scotland will no longer be the responsibility of the UK government.

Ska, did I mention restricting the Pound Sterling to be unusable in the North of England? No, so why not make an actual point.

Comes off more pointed than I intended. What I mean is that your post doesn't address my point whatsoever.

Arun, did you bother to read?

But ok just for you I will re-say (so boring)

"the borders region (where I am from) and the rest of the U.K trades a lot with Scotland and all of the two countries plc's and many small businesses, are inextricably linked to both countries."

Come on man. The north of England and the South of Scotland ... you think they don't trade?

You think builders in Dumfries don't make houses in Carlisle? You think plumbers in Berwick don't work in Edinburgh?

You think that when businesses see the imaginary black line (the border) they stop doing business? Don't be silly man.

How do you think it would affect the economies of Wales and Somerset if Wales was to be suddenly independent? Do you think people in Bristol would benefit from not being able to trade with Wales freely? Or those in Wrexham with Liverpool?

Isn't this something the Yes vote should consider? It has been established that a Pound Union is NOT guaranteed; indeed, it is very much in doubt. If this happens (I doubt it will) Scotland's only option is for them to use the Pound without a union. Disastrous for them but their only choice. They can't use a new currency!

Arun. The rest of the U.K don't get a vote. In your rush to prove the U.K's superiority you are willing to throw people and their families livelihoods under the bus.

"Oh If Scotland vote Yes they will fold and we shouldn't help them, in fact we should cut them off to punish them for daring to be independent ... oh English people, Irish people ... Welsh people whi didn't get a vote will suffer? Oh well F**k them England > Scotland.

It's ordinary people who get fucked by politics Arun. It's important to know that.

Ska you're turning it. Is it only people like me? It's the SNP that wants independence despite the risks. They try to cause an impossible situation in order to gain the Pound Union.

Ha of course the politicians remain safe. But this debate is the exact reason the Scots should say No.

But I will not let them sway me like they have you.

To believe I should in some way try to economically hurt my fellow Brits to somehow prove the Union is the greatest thing ever :(

I have no interest in the Union. I have an interest in the effect the Union having to bail out Scotland would have on ME. To minimise this risk the No vote must succeed. If that fails, we must not allow any currency union. This is totally selfish of me. But the alternative is me paying more for other people.

I couldn't give a flying fuck monkey about the business these people conduct with each other. Because at the end of the day, they don't give a flying fuck monkey about me.

So you'd see northerners go destitute to protect southerners from the risk of maybe, possibly having to bail out Scotland if it might, could go bankrupt.

Emmigrate to America.

You'll fit in there.

And while you're at it refuse the NHS, the dole and any other social contract you benefit from as a Brit. Capitalism all the way for you, if other peoples misfortune may in anyway disadvantage you they should be fucked. Why should you in anyway have to support your fellow country men? Remember I'm talking about the Brits - English Brits who will be hurt by your plan of refusing currency union. But screw them by supporting them you leave your self open to having to maybe, possibly help other human beings if it all goes wrong, no one wants that :(

There is a serious credibility issue on the pro-union side. Up until the poll referenced in the thread title, there were no concessions given. It was said that either things stayed the way they were or there was independence for Scotland. Nothing in between.

Now there are talks of devolution of powers etc. Why? Because Scotland leaving the Union is something the establishment is afraid of. It is a loss of power for Westminster. The fear campaign continues to say Scotland can't join the Euro, Scotland can't use the pound, Scotland will be frozen out of the EU. If Scotland votes for independence then all bets are off, nothing in the campaign actually means anything. The UK will not damage itself because of something said in the campaign.

Trade between UK and Scotland is important to both parties, as it is with UK and Ireland, and although there may be some damage done, any damage that can be avoided will be avoided, whether that's through currency unions or whatever. Money is what matters, but until Scotland actually gains independence the UK has to make independence look as unattractive as possible because maintenance of the status quo is what's best for them.

Ska I will not be guilt tripped into thinking differently. I am like a majority of people. We are selfish dickheads who do our utmost to look after ourselves and our friends/family. No. I expect my government to do everything to prevent anyone entering more difficulty. I expect not to pay more unless it is necessary (which is why I disagree with so much of government spending in other sectors).

Also, if I am such a wanker for not wanting to save the North of England; what about the Scots who are voting Yes? They are potentially fucking themselves and the North of England over.
