YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki has been given the Free Speech award by an organization funded by the company that funds Google and YouTube of which Susan Wojcicki is a CEO. The video has as of writing captured 49 likes and 14,000 dislikes such that the dislike bar is entirely grey, possibly a new world record.

Also, there is a difference between moderation on a website hosted by a private company and the first amendment.

The award itself just generally doesn’t make much sense to begin with lol. But yeah funny to see someone give an award to themselves basically.

Corporations don't have social responsibilities, got it.

I mean I think they do generally speaking. But Corporations aren’t people so they don’t really care one way or the other about social responsibilities. The #1 goal as a corp is to make as much profit as possible. YouTube, for example, they determine how much moderation is required based off how much profit they can get. Should they be held accountable for how they operate (like exploiting workers and union busting)? Yes. Is moderation on their platform one of those things, maybe. But none of these issues relate to the the first amendment. A company can withhold its business from possible customers however it wants. That’s not infringing on your freedom of speech.

One problem with the incompetent management of YouTube is the scale of the website. It is used by over 2 billion users worldwide. When you have that many users you need to have some accountability.

people who think the definition of free speech is something in the American constitution are probably the same people who never left America or know nothing of countries outside of it
