Not trying to belittle his death in any way, but I don't see why this has been made such a big deal out of. He wasn't a comdian I watched much, but even if he had been, to feature him on Apple (like they did Mandela) seems like an over action.

Never saw his standup, but he did have a lot of good movies.

Good Will Hunting - good movie
Good Morning Viatnam - good movie
Patch Adams - wasn't a huge fan, but still a popular movie
Mrs Doubtfire - was a good movie at the time
RV - had some funny parts
Happy Feet - was voice in Disney movie that is popular but not great
Alladin - one of best Disney movies, played a huge part with Geenie voice
Night at the Museum - good movie, didn't play huge role though

I haven't seen his earlier stuff but there are supposed to be some good ones in there from what I hear.

I wouldn't call his movies greatest of all time, but he had a very notable career as an actor.

Good Will hunting - excellent movie
Bicentennial man - beautiful movie
Awakenings - beautiful movie
What Dreams May Come - beautiful movie
Patch Adams - beautiful movie
Dead poets society - beautiful movie

He was an amazing actor, always sensitive, heartwarming and touching. I grew up watching his movies and he was like a soulmate you never met. His movies carried the message of what really is important in life. Passion, Compassion, friendship, understanding and ultimately love. I shed tears watching his movies more than once.

Farewell Mr.Williams

He also had good range (could do both comedies and drama well). How many actors do you know as versatile as he was?

Tom Hanks has played a variety of roles, but has never been as funny as Williams.

I think Mel Gibson has a good range as well...comedy, action, drama (and is manic at times like Williams).

Most don't have the range Williams did. You don't see Jim Carey playing serious roles well.

I would never put Jim Carey on the level of Robin Williams, but he was very good in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

That is what I am saying. Jim Carey is probably as close to Williams as you can get from a comedy standpoint. You've got Ace, Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, The Mask, etc. And I can't think of a good serious role by Carey.

Most of the other good comedy actors have basically moved on. Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Adam Sandler (his movies have become crap).

I can't think of anyone on his level really, even if Williams did have some snoozers (everyone does at times).

Sorry, that was what I meant. Carey was good in a serious role in that movie.

Robin Williams was not in the same league as moth of those other comedians.

Jim Carey is not even close to the caliber of actor that Robin Williams was. I'm not saying jim Carey sucks, but I wouldn't rate anything he's ever been in as being in the same league as Dead Poet Society or Good Will Hunting. The rest you listed are also not in the same league as Sandler in my eyes. Sandler and Carey are however in the same league.

I wasn't rating all those others as the same caliber. but my point is that there is a big void in the comedy actors world right now as none of those are that relevant anymore.

Right now you have lots of just OK funny people churning out crap comedies like Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Johan Hill, Seth Rogan, etc. I won't list them all, but who would you say is the funniest comedy actor right now?

I can't think of anybody but Will Farrell that I would have any anticipation for their movies.

Remember Farley-Spade? Those were awesome flicks. With Williams dead, we're entering a new Era of comedy. Either crappy or decent, I'm personally not sure.

Jim Carey had a few good serious roles. Man on the moon was one of my favorites.

Robin Williams attended Juilliard and was an actor first comedian second. Jim is the reverse. I always thought Sandler was a one trick pony. We're already a few generations of good comedians past guys like Sandler. Most comedians lose their bite a few years after being succesful. Eddie Murphy was garbage by the 90's and Chris Rock was garbage by 2000. George Carlin is an exception to that rule. Good comedy movies still exist but they usually aren't high budget or feature SNL alumni as cast members. There are fewer great comedy movies but lots of great and original comedy on TV and the internet. Louie is one of my favorites of the past few years.

I have to give Williams credit for his portrayal of Popeye. He was perfect in that role.

My two favorite Robin Williams movies somehow got missed in the current list.

Death to Smoochy
One Hour Photo

He was a comedy legend on par with the best, but as has been pointed out, he can hold his own in drama as well. He was strongly considered for the role of Jack in The Shining, but Jack Nicholson was chosen instead because Robin Williams was deemed "too psychotic". Sorry, I'm rambling now, but I will miss his work greatly.

With this talk of great actors and comedians, your missing someone of a very high caliber. If there was someone up there with Robin Williams, (in my opinion because you will probably disagree) it would be Tim Allen. Of course he moved on a while ago but it will be a shame when he dies. The wild hogs will live on.
