Even if there are a lot of analogies between the 2 games I'd go for chess:

Other than the fact that picking and making openings is not so different, I feel that our position/income management is incredibly similar to position/pieces management of chess, and the same goes for timing management and for long run strategies.

What do you think?

Funny, I am quite good in both of them, but obviously warlight is more like poker. You can make some analogies to chess (for example preparing and executing an attack), but risk-management factor and overall similarity must go to poker. For example being able to execute last order is the same thing as being in position in poker (and how significant is that I shouldn't have to say).

chess- it rely s on strategy practice and knowing what the game mechanics are, poker on the other hand is a game of chance that requires no skill at all

Warlight is definitly more like Chess :)

I can't see any parallels to Poker if you have a pure warlight game with luck at 0%, no fog, neutral armies down to 0, determined move order,(....). Planning moves is an important point in Chess and Warlight. For to handle with chances, you don't need poker. Math is more useful and universal. And in Chess exists possibilities too...

it depends a lot on how u choose to play it. It is a lot less like poke rin games like 1v1 strategic, but when it come sfor a heavy fog 6 players, poker all the way to the end

Warlight could be considered more like poker, because poker requires knowledge of the game and when to take risks, but Poker is based upon a lot of luck in the get go because you have to play the cards you receive.
Chess however is different because you start in the same position every time and you have to know what your doing and how your going to do it.
I would say both have legitimate reasons that Warlight is like them but i conclude that Warlight is more like chess

This may be true for a lot of (weaker) players. But the good players don't play the cards but the player.

I would say it is the most like RISK: The Game of Global Domination

I think it's most like Beyblades.

I will say more like poker because in chess you have the starts predetermined you can't change the starts of the pieces at the beginning even auto pick playing 2 different games with same settings with auto you will not get same however in poker your decks always change.
