Some say passive and I’m guessing you get the discount etc automatically. However there are artifacts that say use once per 24 hours, but no explanation how to use them or initiate them. There is really no explanation about them at all in the game.

You put them in one of three slots for artifacts. Click on them. Press activate. You get the effect it provides, but also can't use that slot for 24 hours.
