Backgroud or not?: 6/16/2014 11:07:15

I was making a map, and as I usually do, I wanted to make a background with the seas, oceans, and border cities. But I realize this is not what the most of the people do. So this is a question: Do you prefer maps with background, or just maps where the background is the default black that Warlight have? And what type of backgroud do you prefer if you like it?

This is the map I'm doing, it's not finished, I have to make some territories in South, It is in the NorthWest of the Iberian Peninsula, so I think it should be nice to locate it with the background since it's not a very known place.

The bonus are not the ones that they're going to be, I will change them all, I just set "bonus = nº of territories" while I do all the territories.

If you have a story behind the map I think that adding background would enhance the story. It will also add some flair to the map. But in the end it really up to you and what you feel is right.

For instance Ra's Ursa:Luna is beautiful in it self and adding background would only be distracting. On the other hand Fall of Jerusalem looked a bit dull so i decided to make it like a map from that period (as much as i could :D ). Europe is a strategic map and maybe doesn't need background.

Whatever you decide make sure it's subtle and non obstructive. Nobody want a background that stands out more than the actual playing space.

Cheers :D

And what about if I want to make a "strategic map" (but I know no-one is going to play it xD) and I want to add some background to locate better the map, because it is not a ver known place. Just simple borders with other countries, seas, and names of bordering regions.

That Idea is good, but just to locate the map because most people don't know where is it.

Yeah, I think a simple background would help for context (locating it).

Thanks you! Then I will do the background.

And another question, how do you do to see the missing connections? Do you see territory by territory or do you have another way?

Does it look alright like it is now or do I made too much?

The white zone is because I didn't finished the map, but it would look like that with more territories.

I think this is fine, except that I would make the country names in the same font as the sea names.

The last question. Do I have just this map:

http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=33740

or should add this details:

http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=33948

I just wanted to try and see how they look, but maybe they're too much for a Warlight map, so tell me your opinions.

I also would like to know if any of you would play in a test game to check connections and value of bonuses.

nice map. It lacks rivers and obstacles like mountains etc, which would make the gameplay more interesting. As fro your question - leave the "details" - i personally dislike the fonts you have used but the coat of arms is very nice. please change the sea color though to something definitely more delicate. this one is way to saturated, and it will hurt the eyes when playing, plus some may have problems spotting "aqua" colored player if he had a teritorry bordering the sea.

Keep it as the first one. I think the big font and coat of arms is unnecessary.

Well, since there is one answer of each, I don't know what I'm going to do, if anyone wants to join in a testing game, I would be pleased, then I will see what I do.
