Why hasn’t the nomination system been overhauled yet, it is terrible. MOTW should be about recent maps, yet every week someone nominates maps from 5, 6, 7+ years ago. And what is the point of letting random people who happened to be online at the time of the nominating, decide what gets nominated. Most nominations are made by people who have never touched an SVG in their life, just people who got the free membership trial and thought, “hey this MOTW thing looks fun lemme screw around on it”. Winning or getting nominated for MOTW is supposed to be the peak of mapmaking and these randos without a clue are making it an absolute joke. I didn’t spend weeks producing a quality map for someone to nominate a map from 2014 over it that wouldn’t even get passed the pending stage these days. This has happened for weeks now, and it happens with every map I make. Like you start to get worried nobody will ever nominate your map because they obviously have no idea what they’re doing, and eventually it will get lost to time. I’m not the type of guy to brag like this but come on, a map like Romania Strategic or Serbia Strategic would wipe the floor with 90% of the maps that get nominated. And here I am worrying it won’t ever be nominated, I should be worried about if it will come first or second! This happens to the vast majority of good maps that get released, honestly it’s very discouraging to actual mapmakers who work their asses off to have a shot at MOTW and then this happens to them, week after week, map after map. Sorry for the rant but for the sake of all mapmakers on Warzone, fix your system Fizzer.

See I’m not asking for my maps to be nominated (although it would be nice :P) I’m asking for a system that favours good/recent maps over trash maps created years ago
But I do appreciate it

I do agree though, that Serbia Strategic isn't much good. get what you are saying about it being strategic and not accurate, but if that's the case, why make it a map of a country in the first place? I did like Romania strategic though.

Look at some of the maps that got nominated ahead of Serbia Strategic. https://www.warzone.com/Map?ID=3702 (from 2012) https://www.warzone.com/Map?ID=4612 (from 2012) And maps that got nominated over Romania Strategic https://www.warzone.com/Map/14831-Chile (from 2014) https://www.warzone.com/Map/4901-Portugal (from 2012) Nvm that these maps are hideous, with no background, overlapping borders, the occasional broken connection (and wtf is the aspect ratio on the Chilean one), why are they from so long ago? Isn’t MOTW about recent maps? When you spend 2, 3, 4 weeks grinding out a map and then see maps like this get nominated over it, it’s just heartbreaking. At least disable ppl from nominating maps from more than a year ago, or maps with a rating below 3.0, or make Fizzer have to approve the nomination, or make a MOTW panel, anything would be better than this. Look what happens when you give random members this sort of power.

Those maps are fodder for the machine. Since the bottom three must be eliminated, it is advantageous for good maps to face at least three bad ones. If only good maps faced each other, then three good maps would be eliminated every week. The best system is the one that makes sure every good map gets its week, and that requires three or four loser maps to be nominated for every good map.

How often do good maps come out? Less than every week, overall. So there isn't an ever-growing backlog of good maps whose victory is beyond the horizon in this system.

I’d say 4-5 maps are released each week usually one or two are good or decent. Why not just pick the top 4 maps released that week, plus second place form last week, and use those as the nominations? If less than 4 maps are released in a week just use third place from the previous week as well.
The name Map of the Week implies it is the best map released that week, not best map of 5 random maps from the past 10 years that happened to be nominated this week.
If the excuse is that 4 bad maps need to be released so that a good map can win, then you are basically deciding MOTW before it even starts. If you are gonna do it with 1 good map and 4 bad maps on purpose we might as well not even vote.

Well I guess on that case we are just admitting that MOTW is a load of irrelevant crap. I’ll do my best with templates, thanks Krunx

It's not that "Map of the Week" means "best new map this week" - it just means "A map that gets highlighted this week". (Just like "Person of the year" doesn't mean "Best baby born this year". Sadly. Would be a cool contest.) ("Employee of the month" also doesn't mean "Best new employee hired this month".)
And the system worked fine, for a while. The way the contenders got chosen guaranteed: - Even if a map didn't win, it could get a second chance - There was always a good new map. Getting nominated as a new map means it got the best ratings that week. - There were always two fan favourites, nominated by members - Even if a map was shitty, it could still be nominated through the random fifth spot.
Worked really well. For a while.
Didn't take long for all the fan favourites and good old maps to be nominated, though. Once all the good maps have been nominated, you're left with: - The second chance map, which is a shitty map because all good maps are out of the running already - The good new map. If we're lucky, a good new map has been made. New maps are getting less and less ratings, though, so very few new maps reach ten ratings in their first week. - The two member-nominees, which are now also shitty maps because all good maps are out of the running already. - A random map, which is now also a shitty map because all good maps are out of the running already.
So we're now stuck with an automated system that nominates four less-than-stellar maps, and with a bit of luck, maybe a fifth map that's decent.
The idea still works, it just needs to be reset so all the popular maps can get nominated again.
