USA WANT TO SPREAD DEMOCRACY. Is THAT SO BAD

I think Churchill was absolutely right about democracy (that is the worst form of government apart from all the others which have been tried), so I do believe it is in general a good thing for it to spread. However, I'm always shaking my head at all the people who have been yelling about how we need to spread democracy in the Middle East, who are then appalled when Islamic governments are elected. That's the point of democracy! If people want to vote for a theocratic government they can! The fact that you can now vote for your leader isn't going to change anything fundamental about what kind of a society you want to live in.

What ruins democracy is that there are so many ways to either abuse the system, cheat the system, or make voting seem pointless. In America, the electoral college system makes it to where you can become President with only 25% of the people's support, but then again, the people's vote doesn't really matter because electors are the technical elite who vote instead of the people. The system should be brought down and established with a new, better voting system. And yes, there are systems where voting is extremely difficult to abuse, cueating them requires impossible efforts, and every vote matters. Props to beren's point as well.
