File size too big: request for tips: 3/29/2020 14:20:34

I'm having an issue with uploading my newly created first time map. I got it down by 2MB, so it's now 12 MB which is still about 6x the max allowed size. I mostly rid of some border gore by doing straight lines and removed some trees and mountains.

The detail I put in is... a bit much perhaps, but if anyone has tips on reducing the file size (even if it means detail reduction) that'd be great. It'd be a waste to have to start over making a 'meh' version of what it's now.

How it looks like now:

have you simplyfied all the paths yet? it should reduce the file size by a lot.

The detail should be fine, if it's done in the right way. This was a tip by Buffalo in another thread;

tip: combining certain objects lowers the file size.

for example, I combined all the grass drawings, tree drawings, etc. on this map I made.

Thanks for the tip. I did try that, but even simplifying everything I got to about 6 MB.

I think I might have to start from scratch and see how much room for details there is left at the end :(

Don't start over, remove stuff if you need to and always keep a backup of your current map

Combining objects turns them all the same color, right? I'll try where possible, so thx!

In general I'll have to redo most of the borders, simply because they're very rounded by drawing them by hand that causes more nodes. I think more nodes = higher size, but I'll get back on that if that actually works.

The size of the svg file is entirely depended on the amount of nodes. The less nodes the smaller the file.

You could probably cut the size in half if you make the trees and mountains have straight lines instead of slightly curved ones.

Maybe you can find some other useful answers here. I know how annoying the file size restriction can be so here is a link to help you

That was actually super useful, thx!

I've redrawn the coastline and territories and added in some details. Right now it's 1,5 MB with 1 MB worth of buildings left to optimize and hopefully add keeping it under 2 MB :P

Superflupus nodes is a complete non-issue if you strictly use the pen tool.

I did it! Using only the pen tool, this time, I managed to get the size low enough for all my deco to come over too. The shields are 500 kb on their own but the effort meant I couldn't just leave 'm out :)

Thanks for all the help!
