"A Different Approach" - can't attack: 2/12/2020 09:49:09

I just got to the level "A Different Approach" (where there are no bonuses and seas are treated like territories). I can't seem to attack at all. When I click my single territory and click a neighbouring one to attack, it just deselects my territory (as if I had clicked a non-neighbouring territory).

It just seems like the game doesn't think I have any neighbouring territories to attack.

I've tried restarting the game, skipping to my second turn, using different browsers, and starting a new custom game to see if I can attack there (I can).

Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions? Thanks.

You have to attack with your commander. Make sure it is selected when pressing attack. [It will show in the orders list as 0 armies + (name) Commander]. Then commit

(You have no starting armies. However, you will get armies for X territories. In this level : Extra army for every 2 territories)

OK, I found a solution. I had to click the arrow button in the top left of the screen first for some reason. I've never used that button before as I've never needed it to attack with before.

If I didn't click that first, when I clicked my territory it was giving it that orange "glow" that you get when you select a whole region. So it seems that, unlike in a normal game, when I clicked my territory it was selecting it as a "region" and not as a single territory.

I took two screenshots so you can see what I mean. This is from "A Different Approach" when I click on my one territory:

And this is from a "normal" game when I highlight a whole region:

Is this normal?

Oh. Yeah that is normal. In fact before the an update you always had to change modes manually. Hmm.. I wonder if this should be considered a bug or not, given that you have zero armies it would make sense to start in the attack mode.

Under the Turn number there are 3 'modes' in addition to the commit mode. You can click on them to change.

Inspect : Let's you click on the map and see where stuff connects.
Deploy : Let's you deploy armies. When you finish deploying, it changes to attack. Hence you might not have noticed before.
Attack : Let's you attack.

Note that there are hotkeys here btw. Q to change to the left, A to change to the right and Z to commit.

New player experience is quite important and I do see why that was confusing. If you want you can report it as a bug here and tell Fizzer (the dev) about your experience. https://www.warzone.com/ReportBug

Thanks very much.

Edit: This is really useful as now I can see which territories I can attack without having to deploy all my troops first. Sometimes when I'm not sure if a territory borders another or not it's hard to know where to deploy. Now I can check that first.
