Hello all.

Recently, Benjamin628 has proposed modifications to strategic MME: https://www.warzone.com/MultiPlayer/Tournament?ID=32026

His proposals include decreasing income from 5 to 4 and increasing the number of wastelands to 9 from 7.

While I am not sure I would like the modifications, it does bring up some interesting discussion points about templates in general, and what modifications we could give them to improve them. I invite the community to discuss here what gripes they have with certain templates, and to discuss perhaps what could be changed to make them better.

To kick things off, I would like to try to do some simple modifications to guiroma:

Octane and I tested a few different bonus modifications, and we did the following changes:

Arabia: 2 to 1 (arabia tended to be overpicked and op)
Dacia 3 to 2 (dacia is almost always a first turn bonus)
Britain 3 to 4 (Britain is almost exclusively ignored with 3)
Illycrum 6 to 5 (illycrum can be very dominating)

I'm not sure what changes strat 1v1 needs. But I do think it could benefit from changes. I'd just need to playtest any proposed changes a lot before I'd be certain whether I liked those specific ones or not.

@aura Illy should stay at 6 imo, because of the amount of risk it is to take it.

I think a 5/6 is still a very strong bonus on guiroma. And the riskiness of taking it seems overrated... It only has one double border and four bordering bonuses after all. Compare that to northern italy, with seven bordering bonuses and one double border.

Also, the double border risk reduces itself by reducing dacia from 3 to 2.

As hexe pointed out my template is from QM which for some reason omits Attack-only and Attack by %. Any Strategic template should have those settings.

My idea comes from a discussion I had with Nauzhror about two issues with Strategic 1v1:

1. Too fast expansion. I saw recently someone managed to get 2 turn 13, which I think is a quasi-win. 4 base income makes it harder to expand. I’d also like to experiment with +4 reinforcement.

2. Not enough intel. It’s hard to make picks whenever lots of bonuses are equal. More wastelands obviously reduces the amount of viable picks. Try Strat 1v1 without wastelands if you don’t believe me.
