That's basically a subversion of a Torta

Tortas are great, especially with steak, avocados, and onions, and cheese, and lettuce

Come to think of it, if such things as burritos and burgers are included here, I'd have to say my favorite is a tie between a classic, well made cheeseburger (not the sloppy fast food), and a good burrito with taco beef (ground beef cooked with certain spices), beans, shredded cheddar cheese, and medium-high salsa.

Sandwiches encompass a lot of things

My definition of a Sandwich is:
Must have bread, flat bread, any kind of bread, doesn't have to be two pieces, can be just one piece
Must have some form of stuffing inside, and must be edible

Almost all sandwiches are western origin
USA: Cheeseburgers
Mexico: Burritos, Tacos, Tortas, Gorditas, Quesadilla
Mediterranean: Gyros
France: Croque-monsieur

Some people don't consider a hot dog to be a sandwich but this is just dumb
Sausage + Tortilla = Taco
What if you just use one sandwich bread and put a wiener in it, it's still a sandwich

Put ham and cheese inside a hot dog bun, and it's still a sandwich

Well that's cause the subgroup of sandwiches is called 'sandwich'

It'd be like having a subspecies of beetle called 'beetle'
you have ladybugs, stag beetles, rhinoceros beetle

but calling one just 'beetle' is the same the sandwich term did

Actually loose definition means that the exact meaning is unclear and/or not entirely agreed upon, much like what you say about figurative language. It's like with loosely defined borders to countries, there are borders, but it's not too clear where exactly they are.
