This is a huge problem, especially for diplos! It seems that in every game I play half the players leave before turn five. Explanations and solutions I want.

Play multi-day diplos; the boot problem is unsolved for real-time diplos.

And find a network of trustworthy players (e.g., a diplo clan). The big downside to this is that you can have games go on for years. I have CORP diplos from 2015 that people still play, although the game itself was pretty much played out in less than a few months.

RT diplos are just never gonna work out perfectly, unless it's all planned in advance with a select group of players. Even RT Strat has issues.

I only ever played multiday diplos.

Then it's probably just not playing with dependable players. Multi-day diplos work much better with dependable groups.

In my settings, you get turned into an ai instead of abandoned land when your booted and the ai takes turns for you. You have the choice to come back twice from the AI and rejoin the game, but thats entirely upto you because if youve missed out on RPing you'd probably be left out.

I have that issue with a game I'm playing. First turn, 6 players surrendered. Why even play if you're going to surrender without even playing the first turn. Especially in diplos where it's mainly about role playing, and less about winning.
