Serious clans don't generally like having to train new players, but are willing to absorb intermediate players who show potential. You may call that elitist, but that's how competitive sports, businesses and pretty much anything that's anything works.

For players who are completely new and have little understanding of the game, there's a tutorial.

For the next level training you have clans like 101st, Warlighters and REGL. -> If you're serious about training these clans can generally help get you up to top 50 on the ladder (if you play against them/learn from them).

Intermediate clans would then be Blitz, BIA. -> Good clans with some notable players, but average skill of the entire group is lower. Getting into these clans will generally be difficult for newcomers.

Upper tier would be Lynx, Master, AHoL, XS. -> Mostly closed communities, working with the small group they have to become elite. Very dedicated players as well, won't generally accept newcomers, especially if they don't know them or haven't played against them.

Top tier would then be WG, WM, GG and 20. -> They will only train serious players who are already great, but need a little more training to gain the edge. Won't accept newcomers they don't know very well (except GG, who recently went on a recruiting streak).

VIW is all over the place. They have a number of good players, RPers and some there just for fun.

Upper tier and Top Tier are unlikely to accept you. VIW's standards are quite high and they'll likely reject you at this point. Your best bet is one of the intermediate clans or one of the dozens of clans I didn't bother mentioning because I don't know them that well.

Blitz blitz blitz, chill. Nobody said they were the BEST clan.

@Taiso, I never intended to apply at this moment. It's merely a goal I'm setting for myself. They seem like a clan I can really get into, and seem friendly and competitive :)

@ChrisCMU, I understand why you would want ONLY extremely skilled players. It makes your clan stats much better. But is it not better to help your community out? Perhaps if people are Willing, a training program could be started! Of course we'd need volunteers to help train. Would you be willing?

Dont listen to OEG, Chris. There is no need to make a training program. There are already tree clans that focus on training.

I want to be part of a good picky clan, so plz invite me for a game, if you can beat me then i will apply to your clan when i meet the prerequisites.

I have helped individuals from time to time. I just don't have the time to. Usually I will make a training game with a clan instead (I did one with SNinja recently). Then I can help out the entire clan, hopefully making them better. What this does is allow them to help out other people who start out in these clans. How can a good player possibly train everyone? There is no time for that.

A better way to do that is to have a training forum, which I suggested recently. It can be filled with tips, etc so a player can learn these things on their own. Then they can join a clan with the desired skill level to continue to improve.

That is exactly what I was suggesting :)

A few pros add some tips, maybe a personal note, etc.

It saves time and can help even more noobs like myself.

Those threads already exist, they are just buried. If you do some searching of the forums you could probably pull some. Until there is a forum for just that, it can't really be organized well.

I also suggest looking at ladder games of top ranked players. You will see how they generally pick, where they leave their leftovers on attacks (and using 4v2s versus 3v2s), what choke points they seek out, etc. You won't understand everything, but hopefully enough to get a few ideas.

You can especially tell if they are matchups with low ranked players. You will see where those players are taking and what happens most of the time.

One big suggestion I have is DO NOT join or create games/tournaments with more than %16 luck. It only hinders improvement to have large luck. Then 4v2 attacks can fail, etc. Waste of time IMO. They should only be played as niche games and not if you have any intentions of improving.

You don't need a clan to get better. There was a discussion few months ago, what is exactly purpose of the clan, apparently most people said teaching is not a clan thing.
No one said you can't play games with people from the other clans, or invite anyone and ask for tips.

I think I had like 5 games where someone declined a 1vs1 game I created, but each time the reason was lack of time, not that they didn't want to play. And I don't think I declined more than 5 games, I'm pretty sure I declined only because I was busy.
I also think that's the case for majority of people here. "Top players" are very often vain, and most of them will happily give you some tips. At the same time, I don't think they would let you join their "top clan".
So, yea, I don't get why anyone would have any difficulties trying to find someone for help, but it doesn't match looking for new clan.

Okay.....let me straighten something out.

PRIORITIES:

1) New Clan
2) Training from said clan

Really if they help me out, it's just a bonus.

There isn't really a clan based on training.. there are elite clans, mediocare clans with some very good players, random-ass sucky clans and rp clans..

I understand that. But from I've learned so far, V.I.W is the best choice for me. I just gotta keep a steady pace of wins, and get a few hundred under my belt.

Aha! This is no longer the case!

Also Croagunk, please don't give people misleading information about our clan. We no longer take players who are too nooby and people need to contact me to join, not Kevin or any other member (whatever you say to them just gets referred to me).
