When do you think a clan has too many members?

I think it is about 40+ a clan has too many members.

I think over 30 is too many... a good clan should have members that know each other..

I've been arguing this for awhile, but clans seem to function best when there anywhere from ~15-30. After that it's difficult for players to know everyone and the effectiveness of clan chemistry starts to dip.

Agree totally with the last two points. Also, it is better if a couple of new players join at a time, so they are given a more confident and effective welcome.

This is completely debatable. From a strategic point, they're correct.

Other clans like large amounts to have large clan-only diplomacy games. Now everybody gets busy with games, so not everyone will be able to join. It offers a large selection to choose from, and replacements are readily available.

For example....I'm running a 40-player diplo. Now, If I want to start inviting people, you better expect at least 10 are gonna say no. So I need replacements.

But, other clans like WM may want to keep it small because they're focused on winning. So they'll stay small and practice together for the clan league and such.

Not just practice. In small clans you make friends on the site. We all know each other pretty well in our clan, the same is true in most other small clans.

Well obviously. I'm friends with all the actives in most rp clans (excluding LN).

depends what type of clan you go for. If you want to go for an Elite clan, maybe 7-15. Too many players will make it lose the elite-y feeling. Imo the range for the normal skilled clans should be around 25-50.

I agree with the poster who pointed out that it depends on the purpose of the clan. The clan that I help operate (The League of Erroneous Aspirations) is not an RP clan and it is certainly not nor will it ever be an "elite" clan. Our main purpose is 5v5 games, so even though we are a larger clan, people are still making friends within their own teams because those rarely change. Some of the more ambitious socializers even reach outside their own teams. So, full circle, I agree. It depends on the purpose of the clan.

To me the best clan is the one with the strongest sense of community. Ours is very strong, as we all know everyone in the clan very well (sometimes beyond WL too). These RP clans don't have that; they just don't. You don't get it over a few weeks.

Ah, Arun....there's that arrogance again.

These RP clans don't have that; they just don't.

Because you just know every single person, in all the clans, and you've been in them all, and played games with them, and been personally involved? Wow, you're a busy person! You must have....let's see....NO LIFE!

Yeah, you really need to watch what you say. You cannot generalize every rp clan as they are the same. The point of roleplay, is options. Different people like different styles. That's why there's so many people.

the guy's who playing 65 Warlight games right now tells other people they have know life... wow....

do you know everyone in T4R lawlz? do you know one tenth of the people there well? Skillwise, Warlighters are a bad clan but they have been around for quite a while now so i believe arun.

It was sarcasm. The whole first paragraph was sarcastic.

And I know ROUGHLY 75% of T4R as friends, and the rest are acquaintances. But again, we're not all gonna be friends with everybody, and there's people in T4R I don't like, anyways. We're a roleplaying community, and we play roleplaying diplos. And that's calling 75 people friends, compared to Arun's MAYBE 10 people.

I didn't say Warlighters was a bad clan, and I didn't generalize them as identical to WM, GG, {101}st, etc. I don't appreciate it when you say T4R is the same as, perhaps, LN. Because we're not.

Virtix Mortalias actually is different we may have 60 members however we established Legions(as we are mirrored off the Roman Empire) where it gives that sense of small tight knitted community. .. we have several Legions where our members may choose a Legion to Join based on their preference as each Legion is Runned by differently by different Members
Some may be RP players others may be Strictly for winning so we have a HUGE range of Options

Your clan is supposedly the best new RP clan, and you don't know every member that well. Hmmm. Also, I think you're 'knowing' is very different to mine. I would class knowing players well as having played with them for a good few months, to know their strengths and their weaknesses, to actually like them and to possibly communicate outside WL.

And having 60+ members added in a matter of months and then become good friends is ludicrous. a) it takes a while to become good friends. b) when you add so many in a short period of time you may get a couple of extraverts who know a lot of people, a few people who joined to join a crowd but don't communicate, and a few cliques of players who know each other (the legions talked about above - a pointless concept imo; why not make multiple clans instead?).

Your clan is not unfriendly, but it is not a close knit group of players. If a player leaves nobody bats an eyelid. In small clans (like mine, but there are a good few others too), when a player leaves or goes inactive for a day without us knowing the reason, it is very strange indeed.

This isn't arrogance. I'm sure all types of clan have their flaws, and that the people who join RP clans believe they are the best. But you can't try to portray them as something they are not. They are a group with similar interests, but not a close knit group of WL friends.

No, Pulsey, we aren't an elitist clan. We do whatever we think will make WL more fun (which often includes competitions though).

^^^ I'm not sure who he is referring to when he said "your clan is supposly the best rp clan" but if u were talking to me on that no one in my clan believes we are the best.. The Legions set works perfectly if the Legati(leader of a Legion) know what they are doing.. we are a close knitt community as Most these guys I've been playing with since I started. Other new members Joining before they can join must fight in games with the Legati of that Legion in a game.. this, allows the new member and older members to test each other and familiarize themselves with each others tactics.. this does help in games for the future cause as u said it allows to identify their strength and weaknesses... However, my Legion is Much different as I do not accept anyone who asks to join.. My Legion is made up of my closest friends who I have played tons of games with... we do pride ourselves on establishing those close ties within members.. we have Clan games Legion games even have a Legion On Legion League where there's 1v1 2v2 3v3 and entirr legion on legion games.. competing for Honor and respect within the clan... it is something quite Great I must say...

I would not classify anything with 30+ members as a "true" clan. It's more of a group of people with the same picture next to their name.

Lawlz, to respond to what you say about roleplay and T4R I made several points

1) A clan were people gather play random "diplo" games which consist of pathetic, whinny 9 year olds, people mass booting, and no skill involved whatsoever is not a true rp clan in my opinion.

2) A clan that accepts anyone, regardless of skill, roleplaying abilities does not have a good community and you probably do not know 75% of the clan.

3) To emphasise point 1.. TALKING ABOUT RANDOM SHIT IN CHAT, WHINING AND SWEARING IS NOT ROLE-PLAY!!

REGL has had way more than 30 active at a time, and we one of the oldest clans - if not the oldest - on warlight, please don't make an assumption just based on illuminati or other bad new clans which are just numbers based...

To be fair, Regl had the same reputation due to its huge member base at times too (although less on the troll side, more on the noob side)

Although i dont know the inner workings of the clan, maybe its great, it was just my observation that in the old days the regl tag meant an easy win as anyone (it seemed) could join.

Well we don't have any prereqs for people to join, apart from it being fun to play with them / chat, and that they were nice people and wouldn't go around trolling on the forum and pissing people off (why we chucked out Lawlz), skill isn't really a problem for us. We do have goodp layers though, and we've been improving over time.
