Impaller is King of Medium Earth. Anyone interested in seeing who the best overall 1v1 player might be?

I think it'd be a curious experiment. What I have in mind:

- I'll make five 1v1 RRs on different maps and with different settings (see templates below). Each RR will have a 3 day autoboot, will honor vacations and will be one game at a time.
- If more than 20 express interest, I'll invite the 20 best. Note, however, that if you express interest, it is expected that you join all five RRs.
- If a player is booted in more than 10% of his games, he is disqualified and none of his games count: your win or loss against that player won't count.
- The player with the most wins is the champ.

I selected the following templates because I think they require different skills/strategies, the totality of which would be a good indication of who the best overall 1v1 player might be:

[Europe](http://WarLight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?TemplateID=168940)
[United States](http://WarLight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?TemplateID=163492)
[Ancient China](http://WarLight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?TemplateID=168417)
[Imperium Romanum](http://WarLight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?TemplateID=167788)
[East Asia & Oceania](http://WarLight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?TemplateID=168942)

Shocker that you would use your own rather poorly rated map for such a tournament...

ok artham.

richard, i replied to you in a private game, since this thread (and warlight itself) is about games, not whatever you are referring to.

@Richard lol, +1

@GUI don't we have a ladder for this general purpose? in fact, last time I checked we had two....Also, this is by no means a representation of the best players, as players have to meet these criteria:

1-read the forums
2-care enough to waste time on 5 more tournaments without much use
3-be respected by you enough to get invited

And if there's more than 20....YOU chose who's best out of the group to get invited, therefore already skewing the results with pretty strongly one-sided opinions of players.

I'm not saying that this might not be fun for some people, just that it in no way will define the best 1v1 players on Warlight.

The same could be said about the ladder. Despite zibiks and lobstrosities entry there are still plenty of excellent players out there, that dont have membership or dont participate in the ladder.

With envy being the most honest form appreciation, Gui seems to be doing a very good job.

myhand, aliases are fine. just let me know who you are. i wont tell anyone. this way might actually be most interesting, so nobody will know how the opponent thinks beforehand, sort of like a masquerade party (though without the romance and sense of dejection when you find that the girl you've been dancing with is in fact older and uglier than you had imagined)!

eagle, good points. (1) read the forums: i will make special invitations in a week or so. RRs have a limit of 60 invitations i think, so i'd rather see if there is interest on the forum before i use up those 60 invitations. (2) caring enough: yes, this is the biggest obstacle. but i did say it is an experiment to see who *might" be the best. (3) respect: it's a tournament for good players. i respect good players. it should be alight. (4) my judgment: well, if someone is going to make such an invitation-only tournament, someone has to be the one who makes the invitations! if hhh or other top players want me to invite somebody, i rarely don't listen to them. (5) there is already a ladder with this purpose: no, there is not a ladder that tests many players' skills on multiple maps with different settings and in a league-like structure. as far as i know, this is the first time anyone has tried to do this.

the problem I have with all those 'best player' discussions is that unless there is a good reason to commit a lot of time to this game, you won't really find the best player. Few are competitive enough without a reward for their efforts. If there was a 10000 euros cheque for the winner, you'd be surprised about a lot of players that are currently below the radar. The game is similar to chess but the number of options are much more limited, making it easier to analyse most or all moves in a lot of situations, just a matter of time.

(chaos, i'll tell you a secret, just don't tell anyone else: a little hype can help build up motivation where motivation is otherwise lacking. don't take the talk too seriously.)

Name changes: certain players don't pay attention, so it helps a bit with real-time games (more competitive games) and FFAs (less likely to be me against the world).

Ignored. Harsh. And ironic, because I really shouldn't be addressing you, Rich, until you prove that you're older than me. I can't afford to waste my time with people under my age.
