For the past few days I've been making my first map. I've been spending about 10 hours a day on this one and I think it's just about ready for testing. Who's willing to test this one out?

I tried to make this map as even as I could. There's 94 territories in the map. 47 in North Korea and 47 in South Korea. 8 bonuses on both countries + 1 bonus for either country. There's also an equal number of armies you get from the bonuses from each country.

Preview of the map.

Feel free to leave any comments or advice.

VERY nicely done. There are many experienced mapmakers (who shall remain nameless since they complain about hurt feelings) who haven't even come close to this level of quality. The borders are perfectly done and all the territories should support double-digit armies with no difficulties.

I commend you on a superb first effort.

id prefer it if the bonus square for north chungcheong was in the middle rather than on the edge. otherwise your map is perfect (i assume the connections are all correct). i hope you continue making more, youre a natural.

Thanks for the nice comments. I'm type of person that when I start something I almost never finish it. That's why I applaud myself for finishing this one. Well technically it's not yet finished but whatever. Your comments encourage me to make new maps in the future. Whether I finish them or not depends on myself.

I changed the bonus square for North Chungcheong to the middle.

I don't know how people draw each territory but what I did was I first drew straight lines. Then I drew another territory with straight lines. Lined the borders perfectly using cusp node to cusp node. Made sure there's equal number of nodes on both. and then smoothed all of them except the nodes on the corners.

I don't know if I'm making any sense here.

I think I would be ready to start testing the map sometime tomorrow.

I am now, but because of those different time zones I have no idea how many hours ago you posted that question.

Well, you're a little too late but I'll inform here when I'm able to test again.

I made a couple changes to the map. I added the island of Ulleung to the right which you can use to attack Dancon in the North or Pohang in the south. The Island belongs to South Korea in reality but I made it "neutral" so it won't affect any bonuses and you don't get a bonus for it either. Also on the left side of the map I made a change so you can attack from Seosang to Kangryong and vice versa.

I made these changes so the games wouldn't be so straightforward and there would be different tactics to use.

You can compare the maps.

New version

What do you think? Should the attacking points from ulleung be somewhere else?

Excellent addition with the island. I like that it is neutral (could even make it a negative bonus) as it adds so much to the strategy required. The connected attack points seem reasonable to me... at their flank but not completely in their rear either. Puts bonuses of comparable strength in danger so maintains the balance.

I gotta ask though... is this a second account for you? Just seems odd to create an account, not play any multi-player games and create a map.

are there any real-life connections between that island and the main part of the island? otherwise i think its good as it is.

there are some points at which 4 territories connect, for example in the southeast, pohang, daegu, miryang and ulsan. if you click on ulsan and then daegu, you can see that the borders overlap, but the territories do not connect. if you could redraw the territories around points like these so that its obvious which territories do not connect, i think the map would be more playable.

To Richard Sharpe

This is my first account. I found this game about a month ago and I've only played the single player mode and custom games against AI's before creating an account. Because no-one had made a map of the Korean Peninsula and it was possible for users to create their own maps I wanted to give it a shot.

I actually find it odd that no-one had made this map for the fact that there's actually a real threat of these two countries going to war. There has been a threat ever since the ending of Korean war. I'm not korean myself but I find the whole situation and both countries very interesting. So much actually that I took a trip last October to South Korea. Visited Seoul, Busan and ofcourse the De-Militarized Zone.

To [VM] x

According to google maps there's a ship route to donghae from Pohang and from Donghae. Pohang is the connection point I chose. There's no connection to the north because the north is a communist country and they have closed their borders completely so I just made a random connection to the north.

For the issue you mentioned about territories not connecting. I redraw all those areas that I found problems in and made new connections.

You can view the changes here

I can't edit my message. I meant that there's a connection to the island of Ulleung from Donghae and from Pohang.

Anyway, I have a few hours to test the map right now if someone wants to play.
