Hi,
I really like the progress of the recent unity development. Due to the fact that I am quite busy at the moment I rather play on my mobile, so I dont have access to a desktop computer most of the times.
Although being beautiful, much easier to handle and offering a bunch of novel features, using the client really stresses my nerves on my Motorolla Moto G2 (1.2 GHz Cortex-A7, 1 GByte Ram).
Unfortunately, the app crashes continuously, big maps with lots of armies are a pain, real time games are impossible. Nonetheless, my phone is struggling with lots of apps anyway so I think its specs are simply outdated and now the time has come to get a new one.

I think it could be interesting to start a little discussion on how Unity performs on different hardware systems. I myself or others might get persuaded to invest a bit more money on the next phone but maybe some of you guys experienced promising performance with current budget phones as well.

What do you think are minimum requirements? 2GB Ram, 3 or 4? The newest Snapdragon chipset? Specific Android versions?

Looking forward to some comments.

Greetings

First I've heard of this. It's not crashing for me or anyone else that I've had contact me. Can you report it at https://www.warlight.net/ReportBug?

big maps with lots of armies are a pain

I don't see how this is any more true in the Unity app than anywhere else. Can you explain?

It is true the Unity app requires a slightly more powerful device than the old app. Given that the old app was made in 2008, this is to be expected. However I still expect the Unity app to work fine on any device that isn't ancient.

I've never experienced any crashes, and I can play RT games just fine on my phone with Unity.

My phone has much higher specs than the OP's though, but it's also not a bleeding edge top of the line model.

My phone has a Snapdragon 625 (2.0 Ghz, but octa-core, not quad-core like the OP's) and 3 GB of RAM.

As for Fizzer's comment, big maps are definitely worse on phones, but it's not due to Unity, it's just much harder to play on big maps on a 5.0" or 5.5" screen than on a fullsize monitor.

Unfortunately you need a more powerful phone for Unity to run nicely. On my Samsung Galaxy S4 it is very laggy to the point of it being unplayable, but on my Samsung Note 3 it's working alright. It also eats RAM like crazy. If a newer phone isn't an option, try to root your current phone and uninstall/remove from memory as many apps as possible

The next update won't eat as much memory.

That will be interesting then. Looking forward to test the performance of the next update on my current 'ancient' device. Maybe we will be able to derive some kind of minimum requirements here. Ideally a list of devices from different manufactures sorted into categories like "exceptionally smooth Warlight Experience", "moderate Warlight Experience", "laggy" and "dont think about starting WL" could be developed in that thread...

Hi, I just wanted to add that since the last update, Unity does not crash anymore! It seriously lags (have to wait for about 5sec every minute) but it does not crash. Good job Fizzer.

However, are there any guys who enjoy real smooth playing experience. If yes, I would like to know what phones you are using. Going to get a new one soon.

Greetings

It's pretty smooth for me on a Moto z Play.

Smooth enough to be fine for RT, or, just for MD? I'm shocked that a 1.3 GHz Dual-Core with 1 GB RAM gives you a "smooth experience".

EDIT: Actually, benchmarks show it almost being as fast as my Moto Z Play, so guess not that surprising, just expected it'd be much slower considering it's 3+ years older and has a dual-core as opposed to an octa-core.

Interesting, I'm not sure why that would happen. I'll send you a private mail to help investigate.

I have a Galaxy S7, and it runs amazingly. However, I did notice one problem: when clicking on buttons (not territories, just buttons) I usually have to tap multiple times before it actually works. It's not lag, it's just a simple case of the buttons not working for a few seconds.

But it hasn't really bothered me much, and I'm loving playing on Unity.
