100-250 territories for each would be ideal.

(1) Ancient India: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_talk:East-Hem_600ad.jpg A map of Ancient India would be really cool. And since Indian historical records are so unclear, nobody really knows where the borders of anything was. So a mapmaker could liberally make use of any maps of Ancient India.

(2) Renaissance Italy: http://www.ilibrarian.net/history/italian_city_states_1494_lg.jpg Clearly, this map (like the Indian map) only shows likely bonuses, and territories would have to be added.

(3) The Great Lakes: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e2/Great_lakes_basin.jpg To make this in a way to somewhat resemble the game play and sizing of Imperium Romanum would be cool.

(4) Medieval Japan: http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~chgis/japan/images/japan_1564_1573.gif

(5) Holy Roman Empire, 1000: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7c/Holy_Roman_Empire_1000_map_with_more_colours-fr.svg

I could have a go at either Holy Roman Empire, 1000 or Renaissance Italy. But that would be after I finish some of my maps. since I'm already doing HRE 1789 it might be easier http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=27492

EDIT: I think I will have a go at Renaissance Italy if that's ok.

Your map is cool, Apollo. Though the Archduchy of Austria is not the same as the Habsburg-Lorraine dynastic possessions throughout Europe, as your bonus makes it seem. For example, the Austrian Netherlands are not part of the Archduchy of Austria. The "Austria" in Austrian Netherlands is in reference to the Habsburg-Lorraine family, which was associated with the Archduchy of Austria. The Archduchy itself was one of many dynastic possessions, including Bohemia, Hungary, the Low Countries, and numerous other counties, duchies, archduchies, etc. both inside and outside the Holy Roman Empire.

Thanks. It's confusing shit sometimes. Do you suggest I keep Archduchy of Austria, including Austrian Netherlands, Austria, Bohemia. But also include individual bonuses e.g Kingdom of Bohemia etc

Why not make each political unit its own bonus? The Habsburg possessions were so extensive that the emperor tended to have relatives (cousins, brothers, sisters) help administer everything, because it was too much for one ruler. You could add a bonus for all the Habsburg's possessions, more as an illustration of what belongs to whom, even if no player will be able to unite everything (and if they do, they will have won the game already).

Being a Michigan native, I have had some plans to make a great lakes map for some time. Maybe I will jump on that now that you brought attention to it.

I like the basin idea though. I was trying to figure out where to cut it off, that is a good way to do it.

EDIT - I have started the map and have gotten pretty far on it.

http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=29269 map of Renaissance Italy so far.

I think I will do this map now, over all my other ones. As after awhile those big maps can get a little tedious and boring.

That looks great so far. I like how the Republics and Kingdoms have a low-value bonus, just so you can see what territories belong to it. I am curious to see how you will break up the Kingdom of Naples into bonuses.

If you are trying to make a so-called strategic map, two things:

-1- Bonus ratios of 1:1 should be avoided, unless it is a capital in the middle of a larger bonus. Any chance Mantua and Ferrara (and other 1 bonuses) could have a ratio of 2:3 instead of 1:1?
-2- The smaller the map, the fewer the number of territories you want per bonus. Veneto (5:7) probably has the maximum number of territories you would want for a map this size. Imperium Romanum is a good guide in this respect.

Cheers. I'm leaving Naples till last to see what I should do with it, it will be tricky. A few questions:
Do you think I should include Sardinia even though owned by Spain? I personally think it should be left out.
Should I keep the flags for major Nations?

I guess it's more a stragical map than anything else. Do you suggest joining up Mantua and Ferrara. I'm guessing Venice is fine as a 1:1. Territories I'm aiming for around 200 or less, if it's going to be a decent strategy map.

Why not add Sardinia? The Holy Roman Empire, France, Spain all were involved in the Italian Wars from 1494 to 1559, during the Renaissance. This is one major reason why the Italian Renaissance spread north: conquering armies and kings pillaged Italy and brought back artists, works of art, and inventors (in addition to what they observed).

Aren't Mantua and Ferrara large enough to be divided in two or three?

Fair enough, Sardinia is part of Italy today I suppose. Actually I believe Sicily was part of Spain also near that time. Mantua and Ferrara could be split into 2 or 3, but I don't want it to look to crowded or to go over 200 territories.

Yeah, Spain took Sicily and Naples during the Italian Wars, after the initial French invasion.

I wish map previews could be seen on the app...

I need some testers. I don't know how I finished it this quick, perhaps I had a lot of enthusiasm to complete it. All I need to do now is centre points and links, we should be done tommorow. I'd be glad if you Qi could test it, because it was your idea and you have a great mind for strategy.

I`ll start working on the Japan map, I love Japan :D

Can`t give you a link though. I like that map and are just completely drawing over it, but the picture makes the file to big for WL (there is a max amount of bytes your map may contain). Since I don`t want to put the picture out of the document everytime and put it in later I might draw over the whole map and then link it to you.

EDIT: nvm, I found a way to put it in now. I don`t have a lot of time today, but I`ll finish the map in the weekend for sure. http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer?PreviewMap=29341

Updated the map. This weekend I`ll work on it. Not sure if I can finish it though cause A: Its more work that I thought it would be and B: I have about half the time I thought I would have.

I hope you like it. I think I`m going to change the bonus colours though. If you want anything changed say it :D
