I finished my last year of high school and graduated two days ago. My grades have steadily been dropping for 2-3 years and this one was the worst, even in terms of the decrease tempo. Ended up with an average of 65.65% (without basically doing anything all year, including not doing 90% of the homework, 99% of the studying, like a third of paying attention in class). Could've easily done better with just a little work, but... well, stuff. Didn't really give a shit, to be honest. Also had depression problems annnnd... somehow managed to lose most of the interest in school right when I should have cared the most. I was actually close to failing, for the first time ever. So, eh.
The best benefit of school is interaction with other people, really. Gets you a pretext to meet up with people from your age group and topics to talk about. Also, interaction with teachers. You might end up respecting some of them a lot. Or not. All the studying might be interesting, but if you won't keep up with the work, you won't get anything and won't be able to learn more about it. The system punishes those who don't do it, which isn't really something I ever liked, but only recently had to cope with the effects of it, heh. Usually, I'd get my exercises and tests done twice faster and without any preparations whatsoever and still get about 90% mostly. But that was a few years back.
grammar schools are just a system where upper middle class people run away from the "chavs", making it harder for low-attaining kids to progress, killing social mobility.
I say it again. What you call homeschooling is illegal in civilized countries.
A European calling people from other lands uncivilized because they don't do things the European way.
How shocking. Some things just never change, huh? Always nice to see Cultural Imperialism alive and well.
I have never seen a person with a gun that wasn't a police person
I've seen several people with guns who aren't police. Guess what? They've never shot anyone. Turns out that responsible people having guns is not a problem.
Try not to talk my home bad, you are only envious. ;)
I think you're the envious one. Either that or just bitter because you have no power to force everyone to do things the German way.
Anyhow, on the topic of homeschooling. I know a couple people who were homeschooled, and they're far more articulate than most the homeschool bashers on this thread.
