American cheese is not real cheese.

Neither are velveeta, cheez whiz, or kraft cheese.

They're cheese derivatives, but aren't directly cheese, I therefore agree with this post. #CheeseElitism

Cheese should actually taste good to be considered cheese, and "cheese product" does not taste good. I don't know why so many people's taste have adapted to like foods with very little flavor. People will eat anything these days as long as it's popular and commercialized.

Some processed cheese products have very pleasant flavors. Visit the deli department at your local supermarket and ask for some fresh "4 Cheese Italian Blend" from Land O Lakes. It tastes good and it melts without separating which is why people like it.

There are a number of cheese makers who sell both conventional cheese and processed cheese. An example which comes to mind is the Kerrygold company.
