I am curious to know how the two interact. If the ladder algorithm pairs you with someone on your blacklist does it just throw the game out? Or would it go ahead and force the game in the interest of competition and ladder integrity?

I ask because I am contemplating the blacklist of a member who seriously wasted my time in a ladder game but want to first know how it will be handled.

I guess we will find out since I blacklisted you. You are seriously the biggest dick I have come across since I have been playing Warlight. You go around on all the forums and go out of your way to post smart ass replies. So sorry I didnt surrender ASAP!!!

I was going to leave your name out of it as a courtesy but no matter.

http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?GameID=1705968

End of turn 22, army sixes are 329 to 12, income is 62 to 8. You wait 41 hours to take your turn and at the end of the turn, it is 376 to 12 armies, 69 to 5 income and 100 to 4 territories. You have clearly lost. Yet you don't take your turn then and allow the game to continue for what I can only imagine is going to be another two days. Why waste my time and yours?

So when I question you on not taking your two turns at once, as the vast majority of others would do in the case, you defer to name-calling.

As I see it, losing gracefully and understanding when surrender is necessary/logical is one of the more important aspects of Warlight. I would expect members to understand both aspects... certainly the latter one.

I have played ladder games against an opponent I blacklisted. Nothing special happened.

I assume the reason is because WL itself invites both opponents to the game. Both you and the blacklisted person can join a game created by Warlight.

Thanks for the response Mathwolf. It's as I thought... the ladder maintains the integrity by ignoring blacklists. Thus, there is no real benefit to blacklisting in terms of ladder play.

Could be too easily abused, blacklist everyone except the weakest players and cross your fingers you get some easy games or what?
Also, what would happen if nobody liked you and you were on everyones blacklist? No games then?

So your smart ass comment was not a dick move? The only reason I took so long is because my internet connection kept cutting out, but it doesnt explain why you go out of your way to be a dick, so can you answer that?

the black list does not stop *any* invitations.. you can black list someone and then send them an invite to a game.. blacklist just prevents them from seeing open seats in any of your games, afaik.

and the ladder as someone said, is like a third party creating the game and inviting both of you.. unless the ladder blacklisted someone, it would be utterly irrelevant to the game, whether the seats were open or not..

@Diabolicus - You make a good point. There are unfortunately always those desperate enough to resort to such measures to artificially inflate their own self-worth through meaningless statistics.

@Maniact - I'm going to refrain from continuing a petty squabble on the forums. I asked my question and it was answered. If you want to continue the 'discussion' you are welcome to do so in the completed game chat.

Thanks for the info Perrin... haven't had enough issues to utilize the blacklist. Only have 4 people on it (Vostro is the main one) and thats from comments or strategies referenced in the forums, not from actual gameplay.

Alot of players slow down there play and drag games out when they realize they are losing. I personally hate it but if i were to blacklist people for doing it the ladder would suddenly get alot smaller and i would be waiting even longer for games.

Diabolicus, the main problem with inflating ones stats in that manner... with the modified ELO that warlight uses.. only playing against low opponents won't really inflate your skill level that much.. it would show you were better then the bottom 10% \*or 1/e* and those would be ranked and shown to be worse then those significantly above them..

beating Impaller, Mian, Byjie, Etc. would give you more rating then beating me..

delaying ladder games which you are losing and speeding ones where you are winning artificially inflates your rating. so doing that in ladder games is especially annoying.

Speaking from personal experience, the slowing of play on a losing game is more a matter of psychology than intent - If I'm getting crushed, I feel demoralized so it's less fun to do the turns and I instead allow other things in my life to distract me from getting 'em done. In games that are evenly matched or where I'm winning, I'm more excited to play the game so I think of it more and go do the turns. It's not that I'm TRYING to drag the losing games out, it just is a natural effect of my disgust with the way the game is going :) People who do it intentionally as some sort of passive-aggressive tactic though, that's lame.

That is so true.. I often find myself rushing through all other games while at the same time postponing my turn on that one single ladder game again and again, simply because I cannot decide which option to choose... attack here or there, deploy here or there, this one first or last ..etc. Really no stalling intended on my side, it just happens :-)

I understand the reticence to play in those instances where the situation is dire but not inescapable. However, there comes a time where you need to recognize that defeat is inevitable and surrender is necessary. The stalling, whether intentional or not, should end there.

when I was more active, I've had games that I would have an avg speed of closer to 2 hrs, and then when things get complicated I delay for 2 days, debating entirely on how I should proceed, then when I finally take the turn, I surrender as my opponent clearly walks over me, lol

That exact thing happened to me in my recent ladder game against Aquaholic. I could see it wasn't going well and I ended taking pretty long to move towards the end of the game, deliberating over what would get me back int the game. After about two days I eventually took what turned out to be my last turn.
It was absolutely dire.

All I see here is an impatient person going directly to insulting their opponent because they didn't move. I know that I'm currently playing a game with Angelic Arian, and he has taken a combined 4 days and 2 hours right now to get to turn 0. Yes, it's annoying. NO, I'm not going to tell him he is obviously a terrible player who doesn't understand basic game mechanics. As many people have said, there are plenty of reasons to take a long time to make the moves. I feel bad for anyone forced into interaction with you Sharpe, because although you state your "honest opinion" all day err day, sometimes it's okay to take a breather and smile in order to... I don't know, build a friendly relationship with someone?

Interesting blacklist issue. I have had the opposite problem before. I knew I had lost and a guy would not accept my surrender and I had to play out a pointless loss. I knew I had lost and any reasonable person would know I had lost but we had to play it out I guess so he could be the big man.

in ladder games, the *surrenders must be accepted* box is turned off.. and really should logically be in all 1v1's

That box should be grayed out and default to "not accept" during 1v1 game setup.

"All I see here is an impatient person going directly to insulting their opponent because they didn't move"

Just to clarify, this is the insult he is referencing:
"You can't even make two turns at once?
what... too complex for you to figure where to put your five armies on your 4 territories?"

If you get your knickers in a twist over that then... well, good luck to you going through life. After all, it makes perfect sense to continue the fight when you are down 300+ to 12 armies...
