On another game I once made a username which was mistaken for some odd word for the buttocks, and changed it for that reason. This kind of reason - disliking the name itself rather than the attached reputation - is the only good reason I can think of to use this feature. But the attached reputation is quite important in this context so I'm not sure that potential reason is nearly good enough for implementing the feature.
+1 for displaying authored maps (to get back on topic)
-1 for hiding old names
