Think about what this means. In America, you get denizenship by bloodline or by folk born in America. This means that you have to be from a certain bloodline (gosh this is probably the most backwards thing after draft that's still very widespread today) or have to be born within certain borders, or go through some long, hard, and discriminatory process to get denizenship in another way.

You know what's the first thing a man would do that was actually against the "establishment" would do? Take off their suit and tie and wear normal clothes. In the Xinhai revolution, old Chinese government officers cut off their Manchu ponytails. In the French revolution, the same kind of folk stopped wearing those long white stockings, they're called "culottes" in French. I know this is petty to talk about clothes, but he's literally part of the same "suit-and-tie" culture.
