Overall, the transition is practically complete. Warlight has traded in almost all the old guard and now we've a 2nd generation (or 3rd if you think about it).

Though it's been rough, we're finally back to equilibrium. Cancer is at sustainable quantities.

This leaves me questioning my relevancy. For years now, I've been gesturing sarcastically, posting dank memes, spitting fire, creating genuinely hilarious material, pioneering Forum genres and guiding the new posters like a flock of sheep.

I've perhaps commandeered the construction of the Warlight Right-winger as well as the new age of forum poster, being a proponent for the diplomacy defence and initializing the current stalemate. I've seen the trends, the people and the threads.

What i fear for is the memory. For example, does anyone remember Yuri? Righ? Do their names continue? Can there be memorial at all?

What of when i leave the site and my investment into it? How could i? Will there be memory of myself?

And down the road, what will the new generations promise? Will they remember? How far will things have changed?

If there's an easy answer, it's in blacklist threads. People will never bother lurking and finding their futility. They will brush aside the past for their future prospects. So likely, no, nobody is to be remembered.

What legacy does one leave? What remains? How are we to hold the past and protect it from the scoundrels? The squanderers, if you may, always land in droves. If there was once meaning to warlighter, there is no more. They always alter and never adapt.

I do not strike down the new, i curse its memory.

I suppose, if anything, there will be an occasional zork thread, annually a stupid rapper thing, perhaps once in a decade one would magically stumble on a template of mine.

I suppose that there can be no memory. Warlight Fora are no categorised in such a way to have it possible. The new generation will chuck aside the old.

A good friend told me on warlight :
"Two things are certain here; a 1v1 auto game and a blacklist Forum thread"

I suspect that's enough.

No worries, Genghis. You've been here for too long to be completely forgotten. And you brought "what is this cancer?" to us. Whenever someone will ask for the origins of that question, your name will be mentioned. That's at least one mark you've done on the WL community ;)

Changes are good, though. Don't you feel nostalgic about the good ol' times, sometimes?

I've once been away for about 4-5 months, I think. When I came back, everything was different, included myself. At first I was like "Who the hell are these guys? New Luna Republic, Cata Cauda, Platinum, KarlGoldberg674...", but then I got used to it. I also remember times while Belgian was actually just a mapmaker and not a drunk shitposter, the times I thought Angry Panda/Koala was actually nice, the times where I played 200+ games simultaneously... sure, not all memories are pleasant, but most of them are. And it's a nice feeling to just remember something.

My point is : you'll never really be forgotten. As long as there's someone who knew you on the forums, or someone who browsed past threads, they will know who you are, at least the basics.

(shit, I wrote too much again xD)

They say in life, you die 3 deaths. The first is when your heart ceases to beat. The second is when your body is buried/cremated/other. The third is when your name is spoken for the last time. For some, that third takes centuries or millennia to come. For a few, it will be beyond the years imaginable, as long as human history takes to unfold.

In Warlight, you die 3 as well. The first is when you play your last game. The second is when your name is mentioned for the last time. The third is when any contributions you've made, even after your name is long forgotten, is superseded by another contribution by another, whether it be a tactic or an impact you made on someone who does not realize the impact you had on them. For most, the third almost immediately follows the second. Those names, lost to the times, never to be spoken again, not remembered by any, not even dust in the wind, just like the vast majority of us will end up in life. A few will be remembered for a long time, even if not by name. For example, if Genghis were the one here leaving, his second death would be at least a year in the future, and possibly his third will be when the WL servers finally go offline, as long as "What is this cancer" or other more subtle things exist in the forums and in the chats of games. For a select very few, they will never reach their second death, being remembered by name for their accomplishments, or their contributions to the game, or simply for who they were. As for those, very few will have the luxury of being remembered in the future.

Overall, don't spend your entire time here trying to get a massive legacy. Chances are that you, like most of us, will be gone with the wind upon leaving. Enjoy the time you are playing the game, and play it for the fun of playing it.
