I'm sorry to spit on the lives the millions hurt and killed by Francisco Franco's rule, but I really think that it's weighty to see the good deeds and bad deeds of everything, and to weigh the net to see how it really is. And the truth of the thing is, fascism in Spain brought some good things, but most of all, marching songs. I regularly hum these two tunes

They just put me in a happy mood, and whenever I'm walking anywhere long, I hum these to walk a little faster, to put me in a good time, you could say.

How about any of you readers, do you have any songs that better how you do something? I know that in Germany, there were special songs developed by composers to sing while working to greaten productivity, anyone know these with a good hummable tune?

The good ol' Battle Hymn of the Republic really sets a steady pace for me. Ironically, being a Northern gent, so does To Arms in Dixie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKMTu1GDi_w.

I don't know many foreign marching tunes, I apologize. "I Vow to Thee, my Country" is nice, but I don't think people march to it.

Seems pretty slow and the wrong kind of muse here, it's too cheerful and aimless, if that makes sense. The songs I put - if I grew up with them, I would be a patriotic statist.

Flemish patriotic song. Made around 1560. I don't know for which war it was used but I suppose it is for the Gueldrian wars.

Well, if you ask me, a marching song must have a somewhat eerie feel to it alongside the stirring instruments. Vocals oftentimes are a hassle.

So...

EU4, quite surprisingly, has a couple good ones:

And the metal version of the last one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pO_UqoIDJO0

Why? That makes the folk cautious, looking back, and taking it slow - uneasy. Marching songs must be stirring and somewhat happy and shining.

To apply that effect to their enemy they are marching towards. The eerie feel will make them feel like this is their last stand and there is nothing they can do about it; they are about to be defeated by the invaders.

The stirring instruments take part in hyping up your march.

See any movie with a large scale siege battle; this kinds of songs always show up, as the defenders are struck in their hearts with fear, and only great determination would make them stay there and not flee such combat scene. You are the ones ATTACKING if you are marching, after all - so striking fear is the objective.

Far better ways of psychologic warfare that have been about for 100s of years. In the First World War, folk often yelled to the other trenches at night to keep folk awake - come out, you're going to die alone in your own piss anyway!

Films aren't real life.

Zeph, the folk hearing the music would be the soldiers, not the enemy, and would have a detrimental effect on the friend-force.

Eusko Gudariak, a marching song created during the Spanish Civil War (1936) for the Gudarostea (the Basque army) that fought the fascist franquists:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6YAOKvqRS8

Lyrics translated:

We are the Basque Soldiers
to free the Basque Country
we have ready our blood
to give it for it

A irrintzi has been heard
on the top of the mountain,
let's go, all the soldiers
under the Basque flag

(Irrintzi, literally "neigh", is a high-pitched scream, shout by the Basques for immemorial times, used in celebrations and to call others for war at long distances)

To Arms in Dixie.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKMTu1GDi_w

Southern men the thunders mutter!
Northern flags in South winds flutter!
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!
Send them back your fierce defiance!
Stamp upon the cursed alliance!
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!

Advance the flag of Dixie! Hurrah! Hurrah!
In Dixie's land we take our stand, and live or die for Dixie!
To arms! To arms! And conquer peace for Dixie!
To arms! To arms! And conquer peace for Dixie

Fear no danger! Shun no labor!
Lift up rifle, pike, and saber!
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!
Shoulder pressing close to shoulder,
Let the odds make each heart bolder!
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!

Advance the flag of Dixie! Hurrah! Hurrah!
In Dixie's land we take our stand, and live or die for Dixie!
To arms! To arms! And conquer peace for Dixie!
To arms! To arms! And conquer peace for Dixie!

Swear upon your country's altar
Never to submit or falter--
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!
Till the spoilers are defeated,
Till the Lord's work is completed!
