In a no-luck cycle game, is it possible for me to be the first to commit and still not get my first choice of territory? Based on looking at the rules and glancing over some forum posts, it seems to me that the fastest player to commit should in theory always get his very first pick, yet in a game I just played, I did not end up getting my first pick.

no ... that's why it is called no-luck, as there isn't a RNG involved.

Also just a Pro tip, if you turn this on (https://www.warlight.net/ChangeBeginDialog) Manuel distribution only, the timer will start when you click begin.

Oh, maybe I should turn that back on then, I had that off to get better picks in RT games, but if the timer starts once that button is pressed then I guess it makes no difference...

So yes you can commit but not be the fastest to take your first turn

I think the manual distribution only dialog is on by default, since I never changed it and still have it on that setting.

I just realized I may have misinterpreted what it means by fastest. So fastest is not which player commits first in absolute time, but rather which one commits in the shortest amount of time relative to when their timer initially starts (whether it be clicking the dialog box or opening up the game, depending on their setting). Is that correct?

Edit: just saw the later posts. Thanks for your help guys!

If the game was multiday then yes this is possible. It is about the amount of time you take to make your picks. This clock starts ticking after you`ve looked at the game for the first time, or after you click begin with the thing MightySpeck linked.

EDIT: It might be possible in RT as well, I don`t know if the window pops-up in RT games. If it does, then you can make your picks after 1 minute. The other player can dismiss the message after 3 minutes and commit within 30 seconds and still get his first pick. Don`t know if that would work.

EDIT 2: Also don`t know if it is possible to work around this by not dismissing the window, copying the gamelink and sending it to an alt. Then using that alt to make your picks and take your sweet time to do so in the progress. While still getting your first pick with your main after picking for what the game thinks is like 10 seconds or something.

YES! It is not the time to commit that matters, but the time needed to place the orders! (After you click Begin/Open the game)

To enable the popup go to https://www.warlight.net/MyAccount , it is under Game Settings.
