This^ isn't really true... Mohammed did have multiple wives; but not at the same time. It was like a man had his wife die and then married another one. The reason of why it is accepted in the middle ease is because the Persian culture (and Babylonian kind of stuff) kind of screwed up (not in a bad way screw up (no offense to Persians or native cultured people)) the teachings of Mohammed when it was getting adopted in places like Iran or Syria.
