Hello, and WELCOME to the 57th WarGamingLive Streamed tournament week!

For those of you who are new to WGL, this is a weekly event hosted by experienced players. It usually consists of two LIVE tournaments, which will be broadcasted with in-depth analysis and commentary by some of the top Warlight players. The broadcast (stream) is hosted on twitch.tv

We try to play different settings every week.
You can find most of the earlier streams at:
http://twitch.tv/wargaminglive

http://twitch.tv/wargamminghost

http://twitch.tv/psenough

http://twitch.tv/thewarlightmaster

Templates for this week:

1v1: TBD
2v2: TBD

If you have a suggestion for a template we should use, feel free to drop the link on the forum.

Times & Dates:

(1v1) - October 19th, 2013 - 12:00 US/Central // 18:00 GMT // 19:00 Continental Europe (GMT+1)
http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20131019T18&p0=133&msg=WGL+%2357+1vs1

(2v2) - October 20th, 2013 - 12:00 US/Central // 18:00 GMT // 19:00 Continental Europe (GMT+1)
http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20131020T18&p0=133&msg=WGL+%2357+2vs2

How to join:

Everyone is welcome to join the tournament lobby. We encourage all - experienced players and newbies.

We will be making a "Lobby" to test whether or not the participants signed up are active. The lobby is usually opened around 30 minutes before the actual tournament. The lobby will show up in the open tourney listings. Either you can be invited to it, or join it outright.

Even if you post here and get thrown on WGL invite list your spot is not guaranteed.
To be included into the WGL tournament, you have to join LOBBY TOURNAMENT first. Then depending on the number of people interested, we will decide how big the real tournament will be. Usually there are slightly less open spots, than people interested. In that case it will be decided following two rules: the priority to join the tournament will be given to the "regular" participants and legends of WGL. Then the other teams will be invited, and we will use first come - first serve rule - whichever team accepts tournament faster gets in.

Commentators and Hosts:

We are always looking for new stream hosts - if you are willing to help, and have a powerful computer AND a fast internet connection, then contact either one of the current active hosts: Pushover, ps, TheWarlightMaster, Dom365.

Active commentators: Malamute, Sarutobi, Lolowut, Latnox, Lord Syvedyas, Szeweningen.

Past commentators: Lolowut, Mythonian, Fizzer, Dunga • apex, x • apex, [WG] Reza, [WG] Robespierre, [WM] Trollusa, [WM] Gnuffone, Mian, kcscrag and many more!

Post with your JSA 2 account and I'll add it to my friends list (though I usually clear out inactives before applying my invite list... and that's only if someone doesn't add their huge invite list first)

I would really like to see some template suggestions please!

yes, please suggest templates. on the day of the tournament everyone complains on our choice of template, but no one ever suggests any alternatives during the week. if you have a template you would like us to use please post a link to it here and let people discuss it!

I have no idea how to link a template, so I will just link tournaments or games with those settings.

http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=6985 Someone put this forward a couple weeks ago, I think it is a good idea and would be interesting to see the various techniques people decide are the best on the first and second turns.

http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=6775 The treasure map with strategic settings was a good tournament as well, quite enjoyable and the first time used in a WGL tourny as far as I know.

seems I found the link to one of the templates
http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TemplateID=319471 - If you ever decide to do a 5v5 tourny these are fun settings, but I think less people would turn up to a 5v5 perhaps, so might not be such a great idea.

http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=3052 is good for 1v1, the games are quite short though so you would need to take that into account if you want the stream to be fast or very slow.

http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=3515 If you think everyone who joins is trustworthy then picking your opponent's picks is very interesting, just hope that they stick to the rules and you get fun games, since everyone has bad picks and has to make the best out of them. Picking is most important aspect of the game

I actually prefer it when people link tournaments, template links are so damn hard to extract all the necessary information out of.

1. Oooh, didn't know a tourney came out of that thread. Very interesting! Though I don't see any point in repeating the case study... surely this RR should be enough!

2. I really like treasure map! Hmm, was #54 one of the ones I wasn't available for?

3. Not applicable

4. I don't like this one. I have a feeling players will pick the same boring picks, like they did on the Italy map. Though I cant remember the last time we used a 1v1 template with nested bonuses. Maybe there's another map that could work for that?

5. As much as I like the idea, I'm not sure if that should be done for a livestreamed tourney, especially if we have newbies joining.

I'll add a suggestion of my own: http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=4129 only no abandon cards (so cheap!)

i think i suggested the special 3 neighouring starting points middle earth strategic a couple weeks ago, i believe it was hedja who shut it down saying i wouldnt make for a very interesting live commentary, im not sure i agree but well.

snow mountains games can take quite a while to finish when the game is too competitive, since, its very "right time to attack", people tend to take their time over-thinking the strategy. in my experience atleast. it can be fun but does feel like it might give out some slower games.

ps, i remember telling you it wouldn't be too great becaue they would all be similar strategies, but now I have played through 3 of the games on those settings I have realised it allows very easy comparisons to be made between the matches, and compare different first turn strategies, which is why i now proposed it.

Also I agree with what ps says about snow mountains, games will be long and I dont think the map makes that great for strategic games, but i could very well be wrong.

i remember we play 2 time a 3v3 instead 2v2. We could do it again. And maybe we could try Eu map or Poland map.

actually, thinking outside the box it would be cool to do a bigger team game, rise of rome 4vs4 for example. or scenarios with 5 teams of 2 players. just for the sake of variating things a bit. atleast i'm a bit tired of the same 1vs1 and 2vs2 format every week and i don't really like the concept of analyzing round robin tourneys.

Good point, maybe just 1 large FFA with all the players that turn up? or perhaps in teams of 2 on a Europe map, just one very large mix.

however if you have 5 teams of 2 players to have 2 rounds you will need at least 50 players, too many to be feasible unless Fizzer sends invite, which would mean bad teams of 2. Maybe 3 teams of 2 could work better, so you only need 18 players to turn up, which is more likely. Also a smaller map could be used which would result in better games in my opinion.
