Hi guys is it cheating if i ask help on where to pick ? Yes ?? Well I dont care :P

So on this map im struggling because of 10's warlords blocking expansion after first bonus and so many counters everywhere.

My thoughts so far :
- CA, AA, Scandinavia and South Am have direct counters
- SE Asia (ftb) and Indonesia counter each other
- Africa bonuses West Africa is interesting but is countered easily too as there s no wasteland
- East US is interesting but is countered by CA
- What is left ? Bonuses which take long to complete (6 lands or more)

Right now im thinking (in that order)

- East Russia (can be completed in 2 turns right ?)
- East US
- CA
- AA
- West Africa
- North Africa

East Russia as a first pick + first bonus is a weak strat since it dooms you to a 2-turn-10-start (on a map where you take a huge risk by not going for a 2-turn-11) and leaves you with no immediate opportunities for those leftover armies (the ones you threw two turns of income at).

Given the wasteland distribution of the map, I don't see why you're ditching much more lucrative 11-starts and the FTB's just because they have counters. It makes a lot more sense to instead capitalize on the counters and not just give your opponent a lot of free starting income + great expansion opportunity afterwards.

Don't really want to help since its unfair on the other guy. But knyte (vitriol) is wrong here in my opinion, two turn 10 is good when its safe.

@Buns: 2 turn 10 isn't intrinsically bad if you counter the most common 2-turn-11 opportunities your opponent has. But if you're not doing that and just going for a 2 turn 10 that limits your expansion potential after 2 turns, that's a massive risk to take.

I'd also argue East US w/ proper counter-picking strat >> East Russia. Might even be the optimal route for the first bonus.

Hello

Your picks don't seem bad to me, here some remarks.

- East Russia is initially relatively save here however you have to worry about Japan (especially from Indonesia). I recommend picking East Russia later and if you lose it to counter it from Indonesia.

- You having Central America + East US is a problem with the opponent being in South America. On the other hand if you only have East US you can take East US turn 2 and turn 3 you could take another +4 bonus while also attacking Cuba, especially expecting your opponent to be in South America (or completing Central America this turn.)

- You are worrying to much about direct counters but should worry more about position. Generally speaking you should have one very safe bonus that you can take first. West Africa is a good bonus for example however not a bonus to take first. Counters where neither you nor your opponent get their bonus most likely aren't worth picking them. Sure you can attack West Africa via North Africa however this is only devastating if your opponent starts with West Africa and if he knows what he is doing then he won't.

Nah at his rating nobody is going to pick the central russia or Canada counter pick. 2 turn 10 is good, limiting yourself to only 3 bonuses on SR is a mistake in alot of games.

Also picking that 5 bonus gives you more worthwhile expansion than the 3 bonuses.

Buns im really interested in your analysis and trying to guess your thoughts but its not clear, or precise enough :-).

I dont think the FTB (SE Asia) is a good idea as it takes 2 picks and its surrounded by 10 wastelands so no potential for expansion. Plus I would have to take it in picks 2 and 3 right and my 1 is East Russia so I would leave too much of the map free if I get everything.

Indonesia and Scandinavia for the same reason seems to me too limited in later expansion.

So my picks 2 to 4 should go between East US, CA, Colombia and AA. Probably Colombia in 2 to counter everything. Then probably CA and AA to get intel on those.

5 and 6 should be West and North Africa.

To sum up :
- East Russia
- Colombia
- CA
- AA
- West Africa
- North Africa

Or maybe West Africa before AA (both would be to combo SA but maybe better to have a pick in Africa and AA is a bit stuck if SA is taken) ?

Hedja can you develop the underlying strategy ? Also Scandinavia West Russia ? No East Russia (which looks the best pick to me) ? Anyone else agrees with this selection ?

I never said to take the south east asia ftb? It sucks. In the 1v1 ladder template its never worth picking a 3 bonus ftb if one of the picks has a wasteland in the bonus.

Anyway your picks should win at your rating, unless you know he reads the forums.

Ok I have done that (my previous selection), lost CA in 3 and have the counter hehe. Ill keep you posted :-).

I think he was responding to me- my bad, I didn't really read the map and thought there was a better FTB than SE Asia + wasteland. Agree with Buns that a wasteland pick FTB doesn't make sense on this template.

Ah last question. I can make East Russia with full deploy during 2 turns and break CA with 3, or just take AA and break CA stronger. What would you do in this situation ? Or another possibility if im not sure to break CA (if he has intel) would be to take double border on CA for now (and thus East Russia).

Because once Im in CA ill need most of my deploy for the fight so East Russia might be difficult to complete after turn 2 without losing in CA.

Edit : no ill break with 3, as there s a chance he goes for something else anyway (like East US or Scandinavia).

What do you think? At his rating how likely is he to attack that spot in CA as his last order with 3?

You probably know what to do.

I am going for control of west region which is where the expansion is in the map. Hence 1,2,3 there. Samerica most important since it is the centrepiece and you can see everything from there.

If possible getting in 2 turns 2 bonuses (smaerica + camerica or samerica + scan or camerica + scan or ant + scan) if not then they get scan + one of my picks in the west so I have counter for scan on second turn and win by turn 3.

The only way I lose is if I lose 2 of my first 3 picks, which means they have to pick those 3 as their first 3 too and that I need to have got 1st pick too which is 50%. Even then that means I get smaerica they get scan and ant, I can take scan deploying only 1 army there in 2 turns and have 9 to break them in camerica + ant which ever they take. Strong position

EDIT: just to clarify, it is a risky strategy but I am a fan of this kind of picking strategy when the map is strange and no nice combos.
