Should inactive ladder players be removed from the ladder?

For example, I just got a ladder game with GMontag, and he never took his turn. When he was booted, I looked at his profile and saw that he's been inactive for 17 days and has been booted from 17 ladder games. He's in the ladder playing five games at a time and gets booted in each after 6 days, so he'll be booted from an average of one game every 1.2 days from here on out.

For people who get matches with him, at first the win will provide a temporary boost in rankings because he was doing pretty well (best rank of 13th), but then as he loses a game every day, his ranking will plummet until just about anyone would have their ranking pulled down due to beating him.

Is it reasonable to report ladder players who have been inactive long enough for this to happen, so they could be removed from the ladder?

I was under the impression that ladder players who boot would be automatically removed from the ladder; assuming this is not a bug, this absolutely should be the case, and I recommend the feature be added.

Contrary to popular believe a win can't damage your rating, so it sucks for GMontag to "lose" every game, but it won't pull anyone's rating, except for the guys he won against.

Is that true frank? If I only have wins against timi and teddy unexpired and i win against blowfly my rating still goes up?

just try it, make a fictional person who won against the first 15 and then add a win against blow and see the change... possibly you will gain 1 point or something like that (i ahvent tryed it)

If you "win" against him early, and then his rating starts to drop, don't you get less points for "beating" him the more his ratings drops?

Yes, but it does hurt you on seasonal ladder where you have a limited amount of games. That is why I think seasonal ladders should be opt in, rather than auto join based on previous season.

That's exactly how the ladder's rating works. Beating good players gives you a lot of points and beating low-rated players don't. If you beat him when his rating was good you got some points, but the number will decrease in time along with his rating (and therefore yours as well). So, "beating" him won't give you much, but if you lost with him earlier, you will get a big penalty.

Timi: yes. But it won't be lower than what you would have without that game. You still get some points. Each 2 hours (or something) system calculate all ratings basing on all unexpired games. When game was finished doesn't matter.

Having a game with GMontag will simply make you wait 6 days for game to finish. The only way you "lose points": one can argue that he could get more points in that time.

Edit:
I just checked it.
I did like it's explained here:
http://wiki.warlight.net/index.php/Ladder_Ranks_and_Ratings

Not sure why, but I did have some rating drop, when I added myself a win against daBomb (rating 735).
My rating now is 1950, with a win against him it is 1949...
Same for TeddyFSB, with a win against daBomb he have 2185 (he have 2186 now)

So, yea, that's a huge drop.

The only real negative I see on 1v1 ladder is that if someone is trying to get as high as they can in qualifying (as it would not give you many points). But I really don't care about that, because the ladder should not cater to a small sample size anyway. To me this is a non issue, except in seasonal where you have a set amount of games.
