Let's talk History and Animals.

A long time ago, there was a channel. Called the History Channel. On it they did history things. Like miniseries on certain events. Or a documentary on a historical person. There was also a channel called Animal Planet. On it they did things with wild and exotic animals.

After many years, these two channels degraded to become:

History Channel: People in a swamp/forest or pawn shops. Occasionally a documentary thrown in, but on the "apocalypse.". Making conspiracy theories. Creating a whole new channel to satisfy the actual history people.

Animal Planet: People living in a swamp/forest. People rescuing dogs. People catching fish. Cute dogs and cats.

True, the two have occasionally returned to their roots (Mankind the Story of Us) , but they are shadows of their former selves. Where US History miniseries stood is replaced by people selling old things. Where I once could see environments across the world and odd creatures, I see people rescuing pitbulls. A noble task, but not one worthy of dominating a whole channel.

Please share your fond memories of these channels before they fell flat on their butts.

Used to watch History all the time. Had great shows. Then Ancient Aliens and Nostradamus and Pawnstars happened. Such shit. Then H2 had decent shows; then Ancient Aliens and Nostradamus moved there. Now all I watch is soccer

^So I'm not the only one who's noticed this huh??!!

I personally enjoyed watching the Jeff Corwin Experience on Animal Planet when I was younger. Now the only thing that's semi-interesting is Jeremy Wade's River Monsters.

Most Extreme was the best. I remember being sick once, and staying home from school all day watching it.

I never had any fond memories of the History Channel, but Animal Planet... The Crocodile Hunter, that was my childhood, in fact, I own the Crocodile movie on DVD and keep it under my pillow. I'll never forget watching the episode where he explained how he wanted to be remembered, or the episode on Komodo Dragons, or when he cried over his dead Crocodile Mary, or when Sui Died. So many unforgettable moments in that show, I remember how upset I was when they stopped airing Reruns. Animal Planet just... Why?

It's called Channel/Media Degradation.

Happens in magazines, newspapers, tv shows, tv channels, video game franchises etc. It's due to the lowest common denominator system that rises up when ratings dominate integrity.

Ha, "The Story of Us"? I saw some of that - heavily heavily propoganda.

Speaking of which Game Trailors (in my opinion was one of the last pure, serious game news sites) closed it's doors because the company that owned them did'nt think they were profitable enough.

Basically everybody is going for $ over quality, which you would think quality would get you more money, but it seems it just doesn't.

Don't be elitist. If it brings $, it's quality - other things can at best, be thought of as "niche".
