Think about the new movie The Force Awakens, where Luke Skywalker accidentally creates Kylo Ren who is a horrible monster. Luke then proceeds to hide from him, until right at the end where he eventually comes back to try and defeat him.
Substitute Luke with the GOP and Kylo Ren with Trump.
The GOP accidentally created Trump who is a horrible monster. After hiding from him, they have now returned to try and stop him.
