Im the jailor. Im using the same tactic that was done before where you vote for a random player to get the ball rolling. I would then investigate another player until we find the scum. Its fine if you guys lynch me because the mod will tell you the truth at the end and then game will be an easy victory for the scum.

You can reveal your role... But you can also lie about it. A godfather wouldn't claim to be godfather. Instead, he can claim to be a doctor.

That's the fun of the game - you CAN reveal your role, but will people trust you?

Technically, Death, only the Sheriff can see if someone is Mafia or not. :P

The other investigative roles are the Lookout which only see your visits and who visited you, and then there is the jailor that can force you to say something.

(Oh yeah, also worth noting; when you die, the cause of death and truth about your role are revealed)
