Don't get the hate for HoMM V, really... elaborate a bit?

Graphics are too good.

When I play HoMM I expect shitty graphics that make it as clear as possible that the map is built of hexes and squares to make movement calculation good.

Also the battle pov annoys me, I liked it more when they were laying down on the ground as if dead (no sarcasm, trust me)

It didn't capture the "simple to learn" views in which literally everything that wasn't terrain blended in so awfully that made it obvious that it was something special. Rather, when I played that, I kept skipping buildings and stuff.

Hmmm....

Rome Total War (holds a dear spot in my heart)
EUIV
AOE II/III (both have their good and bad IMO. Although for III, I haven't played the Asis version.)
Civ 5 (The only Civ game I ever played. Nice strategy, but BS AI and tourism makes 0 sense)
Rome 2/Empire Total War (Both are good Total War games, but they aren't Rome).
Spore (Still haven't gotten that far into space stage. Stupid "Spode" guys... good times.)
Civcity Rome
Rimworld (never played that much.)
And at the bottom of the list *drumroll*

No, the drawings in HOMM 5 is pretty low-rate. Loads of detail, sure, but animation and liststyle were godawful. HOMM 3 had less detail, but no laggy animations and monsters that looked like they were wearing a painting as armour. HOMM 4 has the best drawings (out of the good HOMMs), HOMM 3 were also just fine - at HOMM 1 and 2, you get used to it after 1 minute.

Once I know the game mechanics of any civilization game it wasn't fun anymore, as I know on forehand how the game would go. Its the same with EU4, but still eu4 is much better then civ.
Lately I like to play diplomatic games on warlight a lot. They can be like a civilization game, but more pure strategic and diplomatic. It feels like you get much more result in less time/less effort and it is way more multiplay frendly, so I dont have to play against boring AI's.

I agree orange, until one person gets booted. Then the scenario falls apart.

Juq... You judge stuff more thoroughly than you should :P

But then again, lag too. I forgot about it, but in my first attempt at it, it was just so goddamn laggy it was barely playable, too. Been years.

Animations being overly complex and killing the magic of "shitty graphics in which even a monkey can see what is happening" to "laggy detail monster no one cares about".

^ This.

Takes a while to learn the mechanics in Civ series, EU4 is slightly less complex if you ask me. But EU4 has more replay potential by the fact that there are more than just stat differences between countries. Playing as Portugal is a whole different game to that of playing as Japan or Chagatai, for example.

Not entirely... One person is not that big of a deal. Problem is when someone big or multiple small players get booted. Then shit hits the fan indeed. Solution is simple, though: A fair boot timer, and reliable players as the bigger slots.

PE, I'm glad you played it.

Although now I just build all the roads in a perfect, pre-planned way so I know which buildings to place where.
Although I can never keep that cit granary full for long.

Its's so f*cking hard to have space for all the goddam palaces at the end. I can only have like 4 of them or they are too far from granaries and water.

^ Can confirm. A pretty fun Castile + Portugal run. Our game simply doesn't want to let us enjoy it.

I feel like my king wakes up and says "What a beautiful day to fight rebels!", since I managed to get five rebels in the same year... (2 from civil war, 2 separatists and 1 from the iberian wedding).
